Expected to be released or dealt within 48 hours

He was actually placed on outright waivers, meaning he'll be off the 40-man roster but can be sent to the minors if he goes unclaimed, correct? (Same process by which we were able to send Leon to Pawtucket last spring.)

Anyway...easy guy to root for given all he's been through. Provided 126.1 innings of above-average pitching (106 ERA+) in 2017-18, and his out-of-nowhere CG shutout in '17 was a really cool moment. We definitely need to get some better depth options ahead of him at this point, but I'll be sorry to see him go if that ends up being the case.

Johnson was a very useful part of the 2018 staff. Unfortunately couldn't repeat in 2019.

Hopefully he still has a future in the game.

I'm hoping he isn't claimed and can go to Pawtucket. He's had some bad breaks (no pun intended) and has had some 'anxiety issues' much like another now sought-after pitcher. He'll never be an ace but he has a future in baseball with some team with patience and realistic expectations. I wouldn't mind at all if it were the Red Sox.

He’ll pitch in 2020, even if it’s for the Nippon Ham Fighters. But ultimately he’s extremely easily replaceable with an upgrade.

Maybe he can be the next Merrill Kelly / Miles Mikolas / Josh Lindblom and return from Asia an an effective and sought-after pitcher...

Perhaps Brian Johnson will be claimed by Tampa Bay to be reunited with college battery-mate Mike Zunino (whom the Rays re-signed on Monday).

...or not. ;)

Alas, the reincarnation of Kason Gabbard is now gone too. But we still have Hector Velazquez. Maybe he and Brasier can be somewhere between their 2018 and 2019 selves.

On the bright side, at least the Sox didn't trade Johnson for the next Eric Gagne...

Mr. Gagme was waste of two years....

They value the Open spot on the 40 man Roster, more then Johnson. Different regime, different evaluation, of him.

Probably back to Pawtucket. Maybe make it back.

Maybe they put in a waiver claim on Greg Bird

I saw your Brian Johnson for Bird deal proposal. Sounds possible.

I was kidding. Both teams are more likely to wait until waivers clear if either has any interest at all.

I think both players will be in Asia shortly...

Greg Bird gets one more year stateside IMO.

Based on what? Age is the only reason he should still get some consideration...

Because the law of averages suggests that he might stay healthy enough this year to show if he's actually good at baseball...

Highly touted prospect. Assumed high ceiling level. Someone would give him an MLB camp invite.

So should Bloom give him a try based on that?
