I've never been a big Johnson fan, but even I thought he had trade value. Just shows how biased we can be.

Biased? You? Never!

LOL. I will say, in my defense, many of my trade suggestions are shot down by Sox fans as offering too much.

No. I shoot yours down for always involving 3 teams and 18 total players...

Nope. None.

How can that be, seriously?

FanGraphs says:

2017 value $1.7 million

2018 value $2.3 million

And he was making minimum wage for 2019.

Doesn't that equate to a small plus trade value?

Saw Johnson in Double AA, thought we really had something. Then arm problems.

He hit 95 easy, with a good Curve.

One year pitched 145 innings 132 K's and only 101 hits. 2.13 ERA.

Then the arm injuries.

What you saw in the Majors, was nowhere what he was in the Minors.

He threw very hard.

One would think, but DD tried to move him and couldn’t get anything for him. If he had value, shouldn’t he have netted something of value?

Maybe Dave wanted too much.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. Just something to quibble about.

Feel bad for Johnson, he had talent. Stinkin injuries, are killers. Hope he keeps working, to get back. Sometimes you find a Pitch, or something little you do can change the whole outcome.

Sox needed that open spot on the 40 man roster.

I know it’s early, but for what?

I don’t think anyone was a bigger Johnson critic than I was, but the Sox already had a 40 man roster spot open and haven’t done. anything. Only once in his career has Bloom participated in the Rule 5 draft, which is a good thing because that’s the worst way to acquire players.

I almost want a token move to see if Bloom is really working. Or really alive. I don’t need a big move, but something that fogs the mirror more than Josh Osich...

Uh oh...strikingly similar comments to ones you made about Dave last year.

And the year before.

As Roger Daltrey once said: “Mama’s got a squeezebox she wears on her chest.”

Wait. That might be the wrong song for this scenario...

I hate to say it, but the quietude may be ominous, a cliche before the winter meetings next week. While A few teams have already made preemptive strikes, for all we know Bloom may be plotting a blockbuster or have several dominoes ready to fall. What are the predictions here: a big deal, a flurry of small though subtly interconnected moves or nada? I vote B.

Predicting a big deal. And one you (and a lot of others) won’t like...

Yeah, there has to a big deal of some sort...one that involves offloading one of those big salaries.

Your Price for Myers idea is looking more palatable all the time.

A big trade I'd like would mean moving a big name and big contract -- bye Price -- along with a cheaper name with potential to make it palatable for the takers. What we get back would be immaterial (literally/bad pun), as long as the payroll and team culture is altered.

Another big trade I'd like would mean moving good or great position players in return for close to the same in on-field value.

Both types of changes would be dramatic but in the best interests of still contending in 2020.

Ok back to this.

Last year, I was still making these comments all through January. The same the year before.

But this year - and it’s still November - isn’t looking much more active. Can we at least get some rumors? A name or two in the media that the Sox are “interested in”? I really don’t want another Stagnant Nothing off-season...

I think the issue is that the Sox first objective is to subtract payroll, not add it.

As of right now, I’m not asking Bloom to actually do anything. I just want a few rumors to show he’s alive and potentially plans to be active at some point.

Just some press releases. “Red Sox Interested in Matt Adams.” Or “Boston Inquired About Lewis Brinson.” I don’t even care if they’re true. Is that too much to ask?

MLBTR rates JBJ as the 4th most likely player to be traded this offseason. You'll have to settle for that for now.

Being tight-lipped might be an advantage.

Thinking more of incoming than outgoing here...
