What year does Seattle prefer?

The one 3 years from now. No matter what year it is when you ask, they're going to be ready 3 years from then...

Wait till next decade!

Another day of nothing from this jackass. If he isn't going to make any moves, they will not have a successful 2020, so what is the point of keeping all that payroll?

I think the stalling is because he can’t get rid of any payroll...

You heard the story of the jackass who starved to death. He was equidistant from two bags of oats and couldn't decide which one to eat from.

Well, if nothing happens it won't actually be the worst thing for the fans. It'll mean they said screw it about the re-set this year.

So, the Plan is failing already?

Well, when unloading salary, you do need a dance partner.

Also, it's only December 28th. Opening day is several hours away. Dombrowski didn't sign JD Martinez until late February, and he wasn't even looking to trim salary.

The bulk of the players the Sox have missed out on were the ones they weren't going to sign anyway...

And while we make these mock proposals, the reality of this team right now appears that their biggest need depends on who they trade away to cut salary. They have a rotation and would only need a SP if they deal a Price or Eovaldi (unless they want to get Eovaldi’s injury replacement). They have the whole bullpen back from last year. They have a starting catcher, a starting infield, and a starting outfield. And the biggest weakness at any of those spots might be Chavis at 1b. (I do expect a platoon mate.)

But beyond a LHH first baseman and someone to pitch when Eovaldi can’t, what are the immediate needs? Just dumping cash...

Here's how desperate this month is for news: I'm actually concocting trades that would both replenish the farm and not necessarily destroy a shot at contending in 2020...

IF, say, Atlanta is in a go-for-it-now mode, two Red Sox they'd definitely be interested in are Devers and Barnes. Boston would have to get back four highly-regarded minor leaguers: OF Pache, C Langeliers, and the top two pitching prospects from one of the MLB's top systems -- Anderson and Wright.

Any one or all four of these youngsters could be ready to help a big league club in '20. And before you look -- yup, the trade simulator accepted this damn deal.

All we have to do is say good-bye to a guy who just led the majors in extra base-hits at age 22 (by the way, despite Dalbec being just about ready for the Show, the main reason Devers remains untouchable is that Betts is determined to be free; no team or new GM better ever willingly lose two stars on Hall of Fame trajectories in the same dumb season).

Posted

Or... if LA really wants Devers (they don't need him): Devers and Barnes for May, Verdugo and Ruiz; another one accepted by the trade site.

If this offseason is really about reinvesting in the future -- if it's the present, the Sox still need to dump Price -- then why not pedal their most "valuable" asset, who can bring back the most value?

Luckily?, Devers is going nowhere unless Betts agrees to an extension. I still say Mookie -- on his free agent salary drive with a Devers' bat, plus a gold glove and gold spikes -- is more desirable for this one upcoming year to a club that needs that last piece, an extra dynamic to get it over the top.

Failure to launch by the small market guy finding himself

in a big market organization.

Especially for a fan base who only understands spending. It’s unpopular when the GM isn’t allowed to do so...

Are you s***ing me ? Bloom you had better make one hell of a trade to recover from the Anxiety and boredom you thrust on this Redsox Nation .I don’t think I like this asshat now .

I know it seems like the Sox are lagging, but they aren’t alone.

The Dodgers have added Blake Treinen and nothing else.

The Reds signaled their all in this year by trading for Bauer last July. Have they made any moves this off-season?

Have the Cubs done anything? What about the Astros? Or the Phillies? These teams are all allegedly contenders.

It seems like the Braves and Blue Jays have made all the moves...

The White Sox have also been busy.

And you are an authority on the thinking of everyone in the fan base. Get over yourself.

The Dodgers have reportedly been interested in blockbuster moves like acquiring Lindor. The Red Sox are not even registering anything interesting in. The rumor mill.

Rumors might make fans happier, but until they become moves, they’re still nothing.

Bloom has been involved in a lot of Price talks per that same rumor mill. Reportedly with the White Sox, Padres, Blue Jays, and Angels. Do these rumors move the needle?

Just basing it on the posts out here. And that I’ve seen these same criticisms before, back in 2012 when Cherington wasn’t allowed to spend.

Not to mention every time I hinted at this even before Bloom was hired, I received numerous responses “Why are you trying to save Henry’s money?”

We've got about a dozen active posters here. And not many of them are up in arms about our lack of spending this offseason.

If you only use this off-season, sure. But some of us have been talking about this for months...

Your generalizations are nonsensical.

I really can’t think of anyone here recommending spending. Moves would be nice. If they are going to sell, then sell. If he is going to stand pat and build around the edges, then do that. It would just be nice to see some sign of life or of a plan.

I haven’t seen anyone advocating spending.

Those rumors were so vague and there were no interesting names coming back our way. They seemed to be very unserious speculation.

They were. But then so were the Dodger-Lindor rumors...

Unfortunately - and I like an active off-season, too - it looks like he is trying to do the "Win while spending less" strategy. That means that he has to unload saalry and either 1) get rid of a big chunk of money while getting nothing back or 2) unload high saalries and get a decent prospect or two. So far, Bloom is reportedly trying option 2 with David Price, but no one wants Price. Not even under option 1. And that is a big reason he has not done much. MLBTR reported he had to bow out of the Travis Shaw negotiations because they were too pricey at $4mill. $4mill!??!?!?!

Mu guess would be it simply is not worth it to deal Price and Bloom has to deal Mookie...

If the “goal” is a mandate then the easiest fix Is to move Betts for the best return. That return needs to include a cheap major league OFer, doesn’t have to be good if the rest of the package is sufficient
