And they're very good at doing that.

Well i hope they can beat the Yankees. I worry about that offense. Meaning the stros offense.

All good to have the pitching like Tampa and hold Houston to 1. But when you don’t have offense you aren’t winning s***.

Cole was awesome last night. That was a fun game to watch, a good pitcher's duel with some good defense.

The Twins/Yankees game, not so much. The Twins are pathetic when it comes the playoffs.

Dig these Rays. Up 4-0 in the 6th and pitching relievers vs Verlander. I'm rooting for them, but the next game is going to be tough because Yanks are the bottom line, and they need to play Houston. (Also, Astros have home field advantage vs Yanks) Otherwise, I'm with the Rays in all Ways, but not always.

The stros are gonna choke this. Since 2003 only 3 times has a team forced a game 5 after losing the first two games on the road. 2003 ALDS Sox vs Oakland we remember that. 2017 Yankees vs Guardians. Both road teams went on to win. Sox and Yankees.

Can you imagine if Washington knocks los angeles and Tampa bay knocks out the stros? Just give the title to the Yankees if that happens.

They would get spank by the Yankees.

The Rays team and Fans are rollin they look possessed and maybe destined .

Idk man. Yankees would have home field advantage in that bandbox. They have been hitting compared to the stros.

Just not enough good pitching left in MLB and anybody that has any and uses it properly makes headway in the post season:

- The twins had none, OBVIOUSLY

- NL teams have more of it than AL teams (does not bode well for whomever the AL sends to the WS)

- Grienke spit the bit, predictably. Astros forced to accommodate that hot mess, pitch Verlander on short rest, results again predictable. But the Astros do have a backup plan

- Rays in game 4 pitch the best pieced together game of the year BY ANY TEAM

That is all.

Rays are fine. Their home announcers are horrendous though so it makes it impossible to watch them on tv, especially considering how horrible their stadium looks on tv too.

so the Dodgers and Astros can be the Yankees, but teams that can beat the Dodgers and Astros cannot?

I sort of understand d-money's anxiety. After the Astros won the first 2 games I was hoping they were on a roll that would carry them past the Yanks.

If TB does come back and win this, you do have to like their roll...

I am rooting hard for TB tomorrow. Not because they're a garbage opponent, but because Houston is death in their ballpark. We haven't won there since 2018 and in 2017, we didn't win a single game in Houston in a series that went 7. Yankee Stadium rocks for the playoffs and it will be really hard for a team to beat us in our ballpark.

Exactly. Which is why it will be painful to watch Thurs night's game for me. I want the Rays, but I want Houston I guess... even more. Dilemma. Life is hard.

I don’t believe in this crap about rolling. Houston can’t hit a lick that’s why they’re losing this series. Yankees fans would be thrilled if they have to face tampa bay.

Washington vs Dodgers is huge. If Wash wins, I'm almost certain it's a first. And I can recall that old Washington Senator team in the AL Cellar-dwellers for decades. I put more faith in a Wash upset than I do in a Ray upset.. We'll soon see.

Strasburg better settle down in that case...

Disappointing, but it's still fairly early. (Both these starters have almost exact season stats, but Buehler is potent in the post season)

Depending on Joe Kelly to go two in that spot....not too bright Dave.

That was an epic failure of judgement, especially after the leadoff walk and then a hit. Intentional walk to set up the DP, but wait it turned into a Grannie. Way to go Joe, you go Dave Roberts fired.

While a lot of managers do get fired for near misses, Dave Roberts has been with the Dodgers for 4 seasons and has 4 first place finishes and this is the first season he did not reach the NLCS. His playoff runs the three previous years were all ended by eventual World Series champions. (Much to the delight of Nats' fans.)

If the Dodgers fire him today, he'll be managing the Mets or Cubs tomorrow...

Tough spot for Roberts to be in once he put Kelly out there in the 10th. If Kelly leaves the bullpen and his ball is flat, you can maybe convince yourself that he might find it out there on the mound. If Kelly comes out of the pen and his ball has movement and then goes flat (like last night) that is a real tough spot. By rights, Kelly should have not come out for the 10th and once out there when his ball went flat, he should have been out of that game.

Who is going to step up and tell the Manager or Pitching Coach that Kelly's ball has gone flat? Is the Pitching Coach going to go out there and is the Catcher going to say it? Is the Shortstop going to say something? I don't remember the Pitching Coach going out there.....but I might not have been paying as much attention as I should have been. Its not like its a Red Sox game. I often don't watch games that the Sox are not in as intently as I should. I do know that Kelly's ball had gone flat on him though.

In extra innings of a playoff elimination game the manager needs to be hyper-aware of what's going on, and it just seemed like Dave Roberts wasn't thinking clearly. Kelly looked great in his first inning but having managed Kelly for the entire season, Roberts should know how volatile the guy's stuff can be. In the first AB during his second inning of work, Kelly was missing his spots by a lot and you could see his curve wasn't biting the same way. He walked Eaton after missing his spot by about 3 feet. At that point Roberts has to know that Kelly is done, especially with Rendon coming up and Jansen ready to come in. I dunno what Roberts was thinking but he fell asleep at a crucial moment, and it cost his team.

I'm thinking that Jansen was either not that available because of either overwork or poor performances in the latter part of the season. Otherwise, Roberts would have gone to him when he had the lead.

Interesting that the Yanks is the only top seed or favorite to win so far. If the Rays win tonite then the Yanks will be the only higher seed to make it through. They may win the World Series via Minny, Tampa, and Wash. Nothing to write home about.

In a 7 game series, starting pitching is a huge advantage for Washington over everyone. Bullpen? That's another matter...

the Nats will wilt in the bright lights of yankees stadium during a WS.

the only shot to prevent a parade in Gotham is for the Stros to win tonight....

How about this: the name of this thread is simply "Go Rays." What if they go go go all the way to the end. What if the name of this thread holds up till the bitter end. And the Rays taste the Glory. Well, what it means is that none of us will have to request a title change to the thread. Exciting.

With a very small payroll, they have already accomplished a great deal.
