So, 8 years to Manny and Pedey (not big money to Pedey, though) plus 7 years to Price and Crawford (no ring for CC) don't count?

Is this sarcasm?

You’re not getting May, Urias, Ruiz, or Lux. The Dodgers aren’t moving off that stanchion. They’ve got enough talent on the big league or minor league level to make some moves and to take on Betts, Bloom will just have to be creative in who he takes

Agree.

Is Price supposed to be going in that trade, too? Feels light for Betts alone... (although I have not consulted the almighty trade value simulator)

Reading McAdam he said this would be a win for the Sox, for Betts.

Ross Stripling

Tony Gonsolin

AJ Pollock

The trade simulator indicates we might have to pitch in $5M to make this deal even.

Price + $5M & Betts for Pollock, Gonsolin & Stripling.

I'd prefer to take Joe Kelly and maybe Cartaya or Busch & Wong, instead of giving $5M.

I assumed, yes.

Betts alone for Pollock, Gonsolin & Stripling came out as +50 for LAD and -0.50 for the Sox.

"Let’s be realistic in this thread, as it is the “realistic view of 2020” thread.

Is Bloom playing this offseason like he’s going for it?

Clearly not. If he was going for it, he wouldn’t have let Porcello walk and replaced him with a cheaper pile of horseshit that’s less durable. Holt walked and he’s replaced with a versatile but far less offensively gifted pile of s*** in Peraza.

Are the Sox a championship caliber squad?

The Sox were an 84 win team. They got smoked by two teams in the division and the top team just added the best pitcher in baseball."

Lighten up, Francis. They give awards to the best pitchers in baseball; they're called Cy Young Awards. One of them -- who has won three Cys -- beat your key acquisition in Game One of the World Series. That was the game when old man Zimmerman took your pile deep, then a 21-year-old hit one over the train tracks. Ya, I know Cole won Game 5; he beat the immortal Joe Ross.

Cole pitched a great game in Game 5.

Exactly. Yeah, he faced Joe Ross in the matchup, but he faced the WS winning lineup and shut them down. Cole was a stud in 2019, nobody can dispute that

Cole was great for two years for a great team, not so great before that for a not so great team. But neither locale included the pressures of NYC and the largest contract of all-time. He certainly makes the Yankees look better on paper, but nothing's guaranteed...

Remember Suzyn Waldman's rant in '07: "Oh my goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things I've ever seen -- Roger Clemens standing in George's box, announcing he is back!"

Ol Rog went 6-6 with a 4.15... Meanwhile, Boston swept the World Series in four.

Ol Rog was 42. This is a 29 yr old horse in his prime. And no, he wasn’t great in Pittsburgh, mostly because they turned him into a sinkerballer. In Houston, he utilized that 4 seamer and was far more effective. I have a feeling it’s gonna be a “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” kind of style going forward

19-8 with a 2.60 ERA, he always had the talent, even in College. As you get older you learn how to Pitch.

This lengthens the Yanks Starters. Cole is a 1, Severino, is a legit 2, then Tanka, and Paxton. Montgomery comes back strong, along with German, lots of possibilities, including a Trade Package, at the Deadline.

Imagine if the Mets start becoming smart, and move Syndergard. to the other side of NY, for young talent.

The Mutts are going for it again this year, so I doubt they move Thor when they’ve got that top 3. Then again, they had a better top 3 when Wheeler was there, so who knows.

The Yanks rotation is suddenly deep and staunch at the top. We have a reinforcement in German (whose suspension should buy us another year of team control) coming mid season and all he did was win 19 games before his suspension last year. Montgomery is going to be huge in determining our future. If JMont comes back as an innings eating 3WAR+ pitcher, then we likely let Paxton walk at season’s end and roll with Cole-Sevy-German-JMont plus likely re-signing Tanaka at a lower rate. If JMont is the 1/4 of pitcher who are never the same after TJS, then we will have to go harder into the market or entrust our 5th spot in 2021 to a rookie. I’m hoping for big things out of Gumby

They would trade him to China before they would send him to the Yankees.

Or Boston or Tampa. So he could hurt the Yankees...

Can? Yes.

Betts and JD could repeat 2018 not 2019, too.

Will we?

Not likely.

Is going for one last (long odds) hurrah in 2020 worth delaying and hampering the road back to the top?

A trade of Price and Betts to the Dodgers appears to be probable and would indeed allow for a reset in 2020.

Will everyone on the board agree with that move? No!

Is it likely to enhance our chances of moving forward in 2021? Yes, so I am for it. Maybe we can get Betts back in 2021.

I believe I've come firmly down on the side of "YES" to answer that question.

If there's one thing I'm certain of it's that if the Sox go down that path and win the WS in 2020 there are going to be a lot of posters proclaiming that it was the smart thing to do and they were advocating it all along. :D

It is probably the right move long term. But it has a chance at making 2020 a rough season.

But then it depends what happens the rest of the off-season, too...

What if the trade Betts and Price and then win the World Series anyway?

Sure, anything can happen. Sale and Eovaldi might not miss a start between them...
