I don’t think it’s shaky, but it’s certainly a questionable move.

The main reason not to do it is the absolute dearth of OF prospects in the Sox system. This team right now is more likely to find bullpen solutions from within than they are outfielders...

The idea of trading a solid young everyday player for a reliever makes me gag. The fact that said reliever is having a horrible season doesn't help, of course...

Add someone to the bullpen please! Granted if the starting rotation was even half decent we would be competing for the division but still.

Technically it was a solid young player entering his arbitration years for a solid young (albeit struggling) reliever entering his likely less expensive arbitration years and a solid pre-arb everyday player who plays a position the Sox have no internal solution for (except Chavis, who can misfield multiple positions equally)...

Dominic Smith ($8.3mill) closes that gap sufficiently.

Would you trade Benintendi for Diaz and Smith?

Zack Wheeler ($9.8 million) would fit.

Don’t need him.

We’re trading Dalbec for Lynn, according to my (non-existent) sources. Don’t you read my posts?

Interesting Cora an infielder himself, his whole career, keeps putting a guy in the infield that isn't a good fielder pretty steady too. No wonder we are struggling.

Grow some big ones and make Hernandez our Closer, and run for cover. Somebody fixed his walk problem. The kid can throw. 11.1 innings 24 K's, those are some unreal numbers. Don't be afraid, it starts somewhere.

Wheeler will be the next GCole once out of NY

But hey, we got Cashner

Reddick wasn’t an everyday player in Boston. Might as well have used Margot...

As I've said elsewhere, I think that in general, trading Benintendi would be nutty. And the return here looks pretty shaky.

I am strongly against the idea of breaking up our OF or creating any type of hole on our 25 man roster to fill another hole. Especially if it's for a bullpen piece.

Dombrowski should pick up a solid middle reliever (or two if he can swing it) and call it a day. The rest of the team is good to go.

I should have read this before I made my previous post. :)

I completely agree.

Everyone laughs at the Mets , but BVW got Stroman cheap . And it looks like he is keeping Thor , Wheeler and Diaz after all . Meanwhile , D.D. continues the thumb twiddling he has done ever since taking down his Christmas tree . And Cashman is sweating more than Aroldis Chapman with men on base . And that's a lot of sweat .

My only question is why did it take me four paragraphs in the Realistic thread to say what Kimmie said here?

As much as I’ve been disappointed in DD’s “activity” this season, so far by getting Cashner, he’s made the biggest pitching addition of all the team’s within 4 games of the postseason...

2 1/2 hours until the deadline and so far today has been as uneventful as the off-season. Nate Jones, Jesus Aguilar, Martin Maldonado, Tony Kemp, and Jacob Faria are the biggest names changing shirts so far today...

You need a Reliever who is having a good season. Not a scrub or junkballer.

Last nights loss proves the theory. Price done, Barnes in 6th Workman 7th Evoldi the 8th a pitcher like Yates or WSmith SF in 9th and you might have won that game?

Dombrowski f###ed up in the off season and so far refuses to fix it by dealing the deadweight to offset the cash because the Team is cash strapped thanks to the drunken sailor spending.

If a legit RP at reasonable cost is not brought in, Henry needs to show Dombo the door this off-season!

Completely agree except for "the rest of the team is good to go" because that is simply not true. The Sox team ERA is 20th in MLB, which more than overcomes the terrific hitting--the Sox lead MLB in runs scored by a margin of 19. I do not think a couple of relievers can fix that, but agree that's all DD should do because the Sox pitching as a whole is irredeemable. Right now Mr. Inconsistent, the very guy who has given us fits in the past, is our best and most consistent starter--ERod.

Perhaps a potential Wild Card berth is not enough incentive to trade assets for a short-term gain.

The saying that "anything can happen" in the postseason is true: the season can end with a World Series title ... or with a blowout loss in the Wild Card play-in game.

Former Red Sox farmhand Mauricio Dubon reportedly to the Giants in a "significant" trade:

Not for Bumgarner, per MLBTR. No other details available..,

Still waiting.. and waiting. There better something to talk about before game time tonight.

On the “Former Sox Trade Front,” Drew Pomeranz is headed to Milwaukee, Mauricio Dubon to San Francisco, and Hunter Strickland and Roenis Elias are both headed to Washington.

But no real news about anything from Dombrowski...

The way I’m looking at it, time is running out on a legit run if they don’t improve the pen.

Don’t hold your breath. Dombrowski doesn’t do tweaks. Just overhauls...
