Didn't the Pirates that year also have a pitcher named LAMB?

Just looked it up. In 1970 the Pirates had both Bob Veale and John Lamb as pitchers.

They also had Bob Moose, incredibly enough.

Hey man, you are good for interesting comments and keeping the game thread moving along. neither of us need the stats to voice our opinions but I do respect the numbers scholars on this website for all i have learned.

We should be cleaning up against teams like the O's. They are still digging out of the hole that Cora put them in with his very ill-conceived strategy to hold back the starting pitchers in Spring Training.

Not to mention Al Olive® and Al (Mc)Bean.

And if you really want to stretch it, Freddie Pate(k).

And if you want to stretch it really badly, Joe Gibbon.

Ok, that was really good, Illinois, you win.

Yeah, I saw that but I’m wasn’t sure if monkey meat would be a tasty addition to the smorgasbord.

Edit - I guess gibbons are actually apes, so I really don’t know if they are edible.

How about apeatizers?

Stats just get in the way of my BS. Btw, backatcha and thanks for the kind words.

Thanks for the info. I became a Sox fan in the early 70's. I had heard of Radatz, but I never saw him play.

Radatz was great for a year or two. Great fastball that went up and in and no one could hit. At his best, he was unhittable.

Looking at his record, it appears that maybe he got burned out by overuse. He pitched a crazy number of innings for a reliever. But after 4 seasons of heavy innings he fell off the cliff.

How did this never happen on the “Fun with baseball names” thread?

Well, we did have an animals category, but we forgot to have one for animals on the dinner table.

Or any food, like Cy Pieh or Tyler Salad(ino)...

The way I heard it was that the SOX wanted Radatz to develop a curve ball and that's how he hurt his arm.

During spring training,Ted Williams told Radatz that he had a perfect delivery for a sinker. Radatz worked on the sinker that Spring and claims that he lost his fastball.

The Pirates back in the '70's had a pretty good Animal Farm system. Btw, it was MOON's fault about this meat discussion because he brought up Bob Veale.

That sounds right. I knew it had something to do with adding a pitch to his fastball.
