Are there any that you forgive for playing for the enemy?

Wade Boggs

Hey he was a LONG TIME favorite of mine going back to the stroke of 1981 when WSBK was airing PawSox games. Chico Walker was another.

So I know Boggs sold his soul to wear pinstripes, but he didn’t retire there, didn’t get his 3,000th hit there, and I let it go.

I actually forgive both Damon and Ellsbury, because they helped us win championships first.

With Boggs and Clemens it went the other way, and they would probably be two of my least favorite Sox players anyway.

Mike Stanley.

I loved Mike Stanley. Soooo underrated, career .370 OBP, .827 OPS. Always thought he would be a great MLB Manager.

Does this work in reverse ? Because I can never forgive Mike Torrez .

Are you a Yankees fan? Sorry, I havent been around for a couple years. Mike Torrez pitched in 31 games total, for 217 innings in a Yankees uniform. You are really that upset about those 217 innings 36 years later?

I have been called a lot of things , but that is the first time being called a Yankees fan . I cannot forgive Torrez for coming over from New York and throwing that pitch to Bucky Dent . It added 26 years to the long drought.

Luis Tiant because he was one of my top ten favorite players of all time. That gives him enough points to push him over the forgiveness edge. Besides, I always figured it was more about George Steinbrenner overpaying an aging Luis to get back at the Red Sox for signing Mike Torrez.

I'll never forgive Youk for being a Yankee, thus forever tainting my username. Damon helped the Sox win in 2004 so he gets a pass from me. Ellsbury hilariously cost the Yankees a ridiculous amount of money and has basically given them nothing in return so I'm okay with that too.

I can forgive Stanley and Carl Pavano.

Stanley because the Sox traded him to the Yankees for Tony Armas Jr.

Pavano because the Sox paired him with Armas to get Pedro...

Kevin Youkilis. I forgive him because at the time, we'd moved on from him and a fella's gotta work.

Ironically though, I feel much less charitable towards Mark Bellhorn. That's because he signed with them the year after the playoffs that made him famous.

It hurt seeing Tiant, Lyle and Boggs playing for the Yanks, but I never really felt any anger or resentment towards those players.

I was glad we didn't re-sign Damon. He did well with the yanks, and that sucked, but I never regretted him leaving BOS.

Youk was toast by the time he played for NY. That didn't bother me at all.

But the Sox released Bellhorn mid-season. Didn’t he have to work too?

Seriously , we should not resent any player doing what they feel is best for them . As we have heard a million times, baseball is a business. There is no crying in baseball. And there is no loyalty in baseball either. That goes for the teams and the players as well .

I don't even remember Youkilis playing for the Yankees. Wow how about that.

I think Ellsbury is still secretly playing for the Sox. The only explanation...

While I would rather not see our beloved former players play for the Yankees, I actually do not begrudge any of them for doing so, except for Damon and Boggs.

Why do you make an exception for those two?

Damon is a self-important traitor and Boggs rode the horse.

Redsox never made an attempt to re-sign Boggs after his deal expired. He was 34 years old coming off a season he hit .259 with a .711 OPS. They thought he was cooked. Both the Yankees and Redsox were terrible in 1992. There was no rivalry at the time. Neither were very good in 1993 either. This was before the Jeter, Pettitte, Rivera days. Bernie was in his first year as the starting CF.

Its hardly as bad as what Damon or Ellsbury did. Damon did it right in the middle of the "evil empire" years ans Ellsbury did it during a rivalry period....and did it solely for the money, as he disappeared almost immediately after.

Well, wasn't Damon a "self-important traitor" before he came to the sawx?

I mean, it's not like he came up through their farm system.

Damon was a traded from Kansas City to Oakland.

Damon was awful in Oakland.

I remember when we signed him, a lot of people thought it was a terrible contract for a light hitting left fielder with no arm that only stole 27 bases with a .327 OBP.

Kansas City and Oakland had both been transitioning him to LF.

And so?

Again, it's not like Damon was a lifelong sawx player who then went to the Yanks. If that were the case I could understand the "traitor" aspect.

Just because some of you were duped into believing he was not a mercenary doesn't make him a traitor.

Damon had no place on the Red Sox. He could really handle CF anymore, at least not very well. His arm was never going to work in RF, and Manny was entrenched in LF and Ortiz at DH...

"i'll never play for the yankees" is what makes damon a dickbag.

boggs on a horse is what makes him a dickbag.

clemens throwing a broken bat at piazza makes him a dickbag.
