We have been outscored something like 40-6 in the past 5 games, all losses.

 

Good thinking on the part of the relievers. Get it out of your system now. :cool:

 

Love your optimism but the reality is you might have to get used to this........

There was nothing special about Workman to begin with. His "stuff" has looked significantly different since he returned from injury a couple years ago.

 

How can that be when the performances are meaningless?

 

Some are meaningless. For guys like Thornburg though, he is out there trying to showcase his stuff. He is not guarenteed a roster spot. He is fighting for his career, and he looks terrible.

 

Spring Training is funny, there are certain players that get evaluated differently than others, whether they are going against the College team, Single-A or the big leaguers.

Right. That's basically the only point I've been trying to make about spring games. For some guys they have meaning.

I have no idea what definition of meaningful you're using then. It's not the one in the dictionary. It must be your own personal interpretation of what you think it should be.

It may turn out to be meaningful if we find our BP hopefuls can't get the job done. We may wind up with a choice of Workman or Thornburg or other poor performers against Latkins, Feltman and Hernandez.

We didn't spend on RP's and presumably won't this season, so the choice may come down to washed up experience vs hard throwing inexperience.

But the overall context of spring training is that the games truly are meaningless. And insisting the team “start winning” now to - what? Get in the groove? - makes no sense when players with uniform numbers over 60 are still out there...

They could DL him and give him a shot to build it up in AAA, but that contract might make it easier to just DFA him.

Hopefully they usually will only have to pitch 2 innings a game. Cora had a quicker hook last year but he may need to adjust his approach.
