Well, yeah that trade looked like total s*** for them. Why announce he’s on the block to begin with?

Did they ever announce that? Or is his name being thrown around because other teams keep asking for him?

It’s how that 3 team trade consisting of Realmuto came about. Did they announce it in a press conference or something? No. They don’t have to. They have other channels to leak info.

Yeah but that trade dies because they didn't want to include Syndegaard. Miami even tweeted that they need to send Syndegaard to the Yankees or the Marlins were going to deal Realmuti to a competitor. There's a link to that tween buried somewhere on these boards.

If anything, the Mets seem hellbent on keeping Syndegaard...

Since mid-November, before trading for Cano/Diaz, they were listening to offers for Syndergaard. The rumors have been all over the board, from not ruling out a Syndergaard trade, and a trade seemingly in play, to seriously considering, and increasing indication they’d prefer to trade him. Just because a deal hasn’t been made doesn’t mean much. I think they’re crazy for even putting it out there but that could just be me.

Again, not so much the Mets marketing him as it is other teams asking for him. He’s a first year arb 5 fWAR pitcher. What team couldn’t use that?

If the Mets do trade him, the return package should dwarf what the Sox gave up for Sale....

Why dwarf? Sale was under 3 years of control at a pretty cheap rate. Why would Thor be that much more valuable? He'll be getting paid too.

I’m still operating on my theory that the White Sox wanted to get rid of Sale. I see no equivalent reason why the Mets would want to unload Syndergaard. Therefore, you have to really twist BVW’s arm to get him.

And there is also the BVW factor. The guy is new to the GM game and his hiring was widely questioned. Think it makes sense for him to unload one of his best and most popular player for a prospect rebuild package? This team just acquired Robinson Cano. They aren’t sending Thor anywhere, except maybe Westeros...

Well I agree. If you're a team on the upswing, you're not trading one of your studs.

The Mets are trying to contend. And if they want Realmuto that badly, it is just as sensible to deal with Miami directly.

I get that BVW is new to this GM thing, but the Cano trade screamed “We’re NOT rebuilding!!” loud enough to be heard at both poles simultaneously....

That call "we're NOT rebuilding" is an owner's call - not a GM's one. And I DO understand to a degree. The Mets have a championship caliber starting rotation. Could a few moves change their "best case" scenario to 93-94 wins? Sure. But there is still quite a bit of hoping. It's a weird decision to make ... but given that I did not think it was a terrible trade. The future of the Cano deal is not good, but he's still going to be a useful player for another 3 years or so - and it's not my money. (frankly Mets fans should be incensed at how cheap the Mets are historically)

Semi-related, it was good to see Tampa lean into contending too. (with much more justification) You have a 90 win team, shoot your shot.

And Rays fans are so excited about the developments that attendance should only drop by 10% this year! :)

The weird thing about the Rays is that their TV viewership remains high and so while the market appears to be depressed due to attendance, it isn't a terrible market in terms of TV ratings. It wouldn't make sense for the Rays to move out of the area, not with such high TV ratings. They need to build a new stadium. Although, even with a new stadium, the attendance numbers will probably never be all that great. Too many old people in that area perhaps?

Too many Yankee & Red Sox transplants in the area to ever build a very strong following.

You can only control so much. But you have a 90 win team - you gotta give it a chance. Would I pick them to win the AL East? No. Could they pass ONE of New York/Boston? Maybe.

I keep waiting for the announcement that the Rays signed Nelson Cruz. He's exactly what they need.

To be fair, the population of Tampa is a full year older this year. That 10% drop could represent a death toll.

And if the Rays want attendance, then they should change the starting times of home games to 4pm so the local populace can go watch them play right after dinner...

It's a combination of old people, transplants, a s***** stadium and a spread out population.

This apparently keeps the Sox in compliance with the little known " Ramirez Rule " , which requires organizations to maintain at least one Ramirez in their system.

Little known?

Erasmo Ramirez and Nick Franklin were the key characters in this quirky book about the 2010 Clinton LumberKings of the Class A Midwest League:

I like the Ramirez signing for the Red Sox.

Twins, too. Which is probably why he hasn’t signed...

Erasmo is likelier to have success as your 6th starter than Johnson, IMO

Assuming he can regain some velocity. He lost about 2mph last year...

Wasn’t rameriez hot for a couple of months in Seattle this past season, as a starter?
