So, this means you DFA or trade Pearce?

Don't think Pearce has trade value so it's likely a DFA if you go that way. Chavis is probably the best choice to run back to Pawtucket for a short stint to let him work out adjustments. He is a guy that I want on the team for his energy and power. We all knew Chavis was likely to go through a slump as the pitchers caught up but he may well come around given a chance to experiment in the minors.

Pearce was actually starting to heat up before the injury.

I agree, his trade value, even if we pay a big chunk of his remaining contract, is minimal.

Chavis has options remaining, he's slumping, and he could use some time to make adjustments away from the big stage, but he also has a chance to heat up before Pearce returns and change the narrative.

I'm far from giving up on Chavis, but I'm not ready to give up on Pearce, either.

A month ago, I was ready to give up on Nunez, so things can obviously change pretty quickly.

The idea is to keep as many good options available as possible. Chavis will have every opportunity to return and contribute later or get hot now and stay- perhaps forcing a trade of Pearce, Nunez or Holt.

Chavis in his last few games (in reverse order - most recent going backwards):

0-4 (3Ks)

1-5 (3)

0-4 (2)

2-4 (0)

0-3 (3)

0-3 (2)

0-5 (2)

That's 3 for 28 (.107).

That's 15 Ks out of his last 25 outs made.

Tiny sample size, I know. He deserves more time before a demotion is considered, but looking ahead to Moreland and Pearce's return, I think the choice is up for discussion.

I'd think twice about Weber.

Tampa hasn't made a decision in game 2 tomorrow, but as it looks now only Snell is goin on Sunday. Good time to take at least 3 of 4. Ryan Yarbrough against Price in game 1 of DH. Looks like a BP game tonight, and 2nd game tomorrow.

Always look at Opponent Pitcher too, never worried 14 games down the road. Just because you could have injuries. Right now, we should be looking one game at a time. Or just a series.

Rays and Twins (4 +3 games) are both having good years, and the Rangers (4 games) are above .500, so this is a pretty good test. I think the Sox split with the Rays, take 1 of 3 at Minnesota, take 3 of 4 from the Rangers and 2 of 3 at Baltimore. That's 8-6, which probably won't make up much ground with the Yankees, but also shouldn't give up too much.

The lineup, despite all our complaints, isn't that bad and is 4th in MLB in runs and 5th in OPS. The rotation is pretty good with two--Sale and Price--capable of being very good to great.

The big question, especially with all these back to back games including a doubleheader tomorrow, is the bullpen. On another thread (or page on this thread) I said Barnes, Walden, Workman, Brasier, and Hembree--maybe our five best--are being paid a total of $5.5M. The Yankees pay their four best relievers about $40M, and the Cubs just handed Kimbrel a $42M contract for 3 years.

Interesting, tells me our Pitching, and sloppy play is hurting us. Probably not too good in RISP too.

You give him one more thought than I do...

Shawaryn is going to be used in another game. Who starts instead? Smith?

What is striking your fancy about Erasmo?

Maybe his 5.14 ERA in AAA?

His .797 OPS against?

His 1.33 WHIP?

Josh Taylor has much better numbers, so far.

He has struggled, but he also has an MLB track record that isn’t awful..,

On the June 4th Royals game every Sox position player (except Holt's 24 games w the Pirates), was home grown. When was the last time every Sox player fielded was home grown? Pretty rare I'd guess. Maybe a late season game?

While DD did actually try to address the minor league pitching depth issues this off-season, he really didn’t actually sign much to choose from.

I think we’ve already seen the best of Ryan Weber...

I thought DD hire Brian Bannister was going to make a major readjustment and retinking of the way Red Sox develop pitching in the minor leagues. I haven't heard or read anything about what Bannister is doing along these lines. I'd appreciate any info from anyone who has.

Me, too.

The overhaul should take time.

Anybody notice the Astros are on fire. 18-6 in last 24 games. No problem with that team, even after WS win, they got there again, and this year, repeating. Injuries don't bother them. Their Farm system is strong, big reason. Edited by OH FOY!

The Astros have done a great job and are the premier team over the last 3 seasons.

But I'll still take our 4 titles in 15 years any day.

I'll take our Patriots 6 SB's over our Sox, last 19 years. Just voted the most dominating team in all sports in this decade.

You know what Belichick would say about this? He would say what's done in the past has no bearing on this season. He could care less, its all about the now.

That's why they are great.
