I'll say this, the discussions the front office had about the bullpen must have been interesting. I wonder if they decided from the very outset of the offseason that they weren't going to spend a nickel on it.

It’s times like that when it’s good to be President as well as GM. It would have been a tough plan for DD to sell on anyone who wasn’t himself...

Now I think Henry would be partially involved in the decision too. And there would be some numbers cranked out by the analytics people.

It might have been an easier sell on Henry. “My plan for the bullpen? Ok, John, remember 2003 when we just stuck Braden Looper in the closer role and we added a bunch of no name guys like Tim Spooneybargar and Chad Fox and it actually worked? I want to do that again.”

We lost 2-1 yesterday. We're still bitching about our bullpen? Edited by Nick

We lost today 5 to 2 with 3 unearned runs. Error by Devers, misplay by JBJ and error by Chavis. it possible some repositioning might help, but it is hard to do during the season. Chavis is hitting well right now and his power lifts the back end of the lineup. Devers got a couple of hits today as well and even JBJ got a double off the wall. The Rays have good pitching so we were held down today again. Moreland has gone cold, Pearce hasn't got it going and with our other weak spots it is hard to score.

Would Cora consider moving Devers to 1st and Chavis to 3rd? Sure seems like something is needed.

May not be popular thought here but maybe it's time to shake things up with a DFA of JBJ ,Pearce ,Nuney ? Sometimes addition by subtraction is all a team needs .Holt can take over for Nuney and start playing JD full time LF move Benny to Right Betts CF and 2b with rotation with Holt there along with Chavis .Chavis also on rotation with Devers .Devers takes on more DH and also rotates with Mitch at first .I would play Vaz much more and make Sandy primary caddy for Sale and Porcello .

Thanks for the laughs.

You win as a team . You lose as a team . It's not the starting pitching . It's not the bullpen . It's not the offense . It's not the defense . It's not the manager . It's not any individual player . It's all of those things . On a winning team , the players pick each other up . That has not been happening since they got off the duck boats . This team has got to start playing better baseball . Start playing like a championship ballclub . They have shown they have the ability to do it . Need to do it soon before they dig too deep of a hole .

No offense but are you NUTS?

We owe Nunez $5M.

We owe JBJ $8.55M.

We owe Pearce $6.25M.

Do you think we can recoup that money in a trade?

JBJ should be moved/traded when he gets hot the next time.

Now your other thoughts are worth considering.

Player's trade stock does not rise and fall as much as you think based on one hot streak (or cold one).

Our next 15....

3 v OAK (Velazquez, ERod & Porcello)

4 @ CWS (Price, Sale, Velazquez & ERod)

3 @ BAL (Porcello, Price, Sale)

3 v SEA (Velazquez, ERod & Porcello)

2 v COL (Price & Sale)

(Then, we play 6 v HOU & 4 @ TOR.)

Time to shine, guys!

but today would be a bad day to move JBJ, no?

If he has a great second half, I'd say trade him. He'll be a free agent with Boras as the agent.

I've never been for trading JBJ, but I'll listen to any deal.

We have no OF depth, and we will likely have a very limited spending budget, so maybe trading his salary will be part of the plan.

Make me a suggested trade, and I'll respond.

There are no secrets . The other teams are well aware that he will be a free agent and that Boras is the agent . That seriously lowers the return you might expect .

I'm not sure a team trading for JBJ is thinking that an extension is very valuable.

To me, the biggest downfall of trading for JBJ will be his arb contract cost for his final year.

I agree. That's why my assessment of things will count more afer one-third the season or 54 games. We have a very favorable schedule coming up, which is another reason to wait. But both player and team performance can only be measured over time, because there are way too many variables in each and every game. If we are 22-32 at the third mark, it's time to get critiical; if we are 27-27, that's not bad at all because of the dominant number of weak or under .500 teams in the AL. (The only teams I have any fear of are NY, Houston, and Cleveland--all other teams are iffy at best)

I say favorable schedule coming up, but to me the whole season is more or less a favorable schedule for the 4 top teams.

The Tatis injury reminds me very much of the injury suffered by Harmon Killebrew in the 1968 All Star game.

I was there in person ... not for the splits by childhood hero Harmon Killiebrew in the 1968 All Star game (which I remember well) but for the splits by Fernando Tatis Jr. in Sunday's game at Nationals Park in Washington DC.

Harmon was very limber for a big man. I remember watching that and thinking that it had to really hurt.

I keep repeating my "team will turn it around by mid-May" mantra, but wow that date is getting closer. It's true that by and large the rotation is in much better shape than the start of the season, but the offense remains abysmal. The pen is fine. We may need a trade to get a sparkplug in that offense.

They don't have to wait until mid May.

We could go 10-5 in our next 15.

2B not likely going to get any better, soon.

Red Sox infielders Dustin Pedroia and Eduardo Nunez are set to embark on rehab assignments, manager Alex Cora said Sunday. Meanwhile, fellow banged-up infielder Brock Holt was scratched from his Triple-A rehab game Sunday because of right shoulder soreness (links via Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com). Pedroia landed on the IL on April 18 with yet another left knee injury, but he’s “a lot better” now, according to Cora, who announced he’s likely to play with Double-A Portland beginning May 2. Nunez, down since the 19th with a mid-back strain, will go to Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday and could be back in Boston by May 6, Cotillo writes. Holt has been on the IL since April 6 with a scratched right cornea, and there’s no word on how serious his shoulder problem is. When healthy, Pedroia, Nunez and Holt have posted pitiful production this year, which helps explain why Boston second basemen have recorded the AL’s worst fWAR (minus-0.9).

Of course we also probably thought that stretch against Baltimore and Detroit might have gone better...

Harm , Is " Harmony " a tribute to Harmon Killebrew ? My favorite memory of Killebrew is seeing him play in the old Yankee Stadium when I was a kid . A guy sitting nearby kept up a constant chant of " Har - Mon - Killy - Brew " - " Har - Mon - Killy - Brew " the whole game . Killebrew hit three high , majestic shots to left center , ( then very , very deep and known as Death Valley, ) all of them caught for outs . I thought to myself , " If this guy played for the Red Sox , he would break the home run record playing half his games in Fenway Park . " A long time ago , but still a very vivid memory .

I chose harmony because I want diverse opinions to co-exist in harmony. In other words, I'm not here to pick a fight.:)

But the name of my fantasy team is a tribute to Harmon Killebrew because the moniker combines our last names.

In my first MLB games -- a doubleheader at old Comiskey Park in Chicago -- Killebrew homered in each game but the White Sox swept the Twins in 15 and 11 innings:

Midway through the second game my father wanted to leave to catch the Greyhound bus back to my small hometown. I told him he was free to leave but that I would find my 10-year-old self back to Iowa on my own. We stayed and caught a later bus, arriving home about an hour before he reported to work the following morning. Neither he nor my mother complained that we spent their 17th wedding anniversary at a ballgame.

Those Sunday double headers were something back in the day . I used to get there as soon as the gates opened , to watch batting and infield practice. Stayed outside after the games to watch the players leave , and look for autographs. Now , we complain that the games are too long . Times have surely changed .

Nice story, harm.

My fist game was at Wrigley Field. It was a class trip from my school in Milwaukee. All I remember was Ernie Banks hitting a homer.

(That was before the Brewers arrived from Seattle (the Pilots).)
