I would say he does "have" to keep 13 pitchers because the rotation continues not to deliver 5-8 innings per start. Price went 1.1 in his last start, Johnson 3. Eovaldi's recovery is now on hold. None of the usual suspects seems capable of stepping in as the 5th starter.

What's made it a little easier to keep just 12 position players is all the injuries. Cora is even limited among those 12 because guys like Pearce and Nunez ain't hitting and ain't much on defense either. That's the biggest reason why Chavis has stayed in the lineup during his slump.

We do have a significant amount of days off coming up soon, not even counting the 4 day all star break.

We'll probably stick with 13 pitchers until a need arises on the bench.

1) They only ran Smith out there because it was a 5 run lead.

2) Kimbrel was looking for more twice what he got.

3) 4 titles in 15 years and 119 wins last year while being "cash strapped" isn't so bad.

You're as clueless as ever, thanks for the laughs.

Is this Alex Cora? 18 is history! Now let’s face the facts and the facts r undisputed

Without a Closer and possibly a 7th inning setup arm your in “big trouble in little China Jack”

They do play in the easiest division in MLB, but yes, they are a formidable opponent.

It's time for us to show the good team that we are better.

IMO, the Twins are gonna be playoff cupcakes.

I just loved reading the Game Day reaction to Cora bringing in first, Brewer. Then wait for it, Brasier. Complete meltdown.

Funny stuff. I'm pretty sure at least one poster had a heart attack.

Kimmi is right. Our bullpen is not the problem.

So true. I only made one post (I think) in the GT then walked away from it until the 9th. The reactions in the 8th (and then the 9th) were priceless!

Oh ye of little faith! LOL

We'd have never heard the end of it, if we lost the game.

It makes me wonder, if the "hindsighters" now think they were good choices, of if Cora just got lucky.

I do have a question: is Hembree hurt?

The guy has been pretty good, but we hardly use him.

He's only faced 12 batters since May 29th (19 days)

In his last 8 games:

5.2 IP

0 ER

4H

0 BB

8 Ks

He hasn't been used since June 10th.

Ahh, yes. I did.

Thanks.

Well, it will help when he comes back.

As bad as we've looked, as many fans that have all but throw in the towel, as ugly as we have looked for long stretches this year, we are just...

4 games behind the Rays.

5.5 games behind the Yanks.

Tied for the last WC slot with a team likely to have been playing over their heads- the Rangers.

(We're 2.5 up on the A's and 1.5 up on the Guardians.)

Taking out Porcello and putting in Brewer there was either brave or crazy, take your pick LOL

I'm a Cora fan so I'll go with brave.

Why not both?

I think the word “brazy” could be appropriate here

That's probably the nickname of the fellow who got the save.

What was the most gutsy pitching change in Red Sox history?

For me there's no contest. It was when Tito brought in Bronson Arroyo for the 8th inning of 2004 ALCS Game 6.

Not a pitching change per season, but adjusting the rotation so Pete Schourek could pitch game 4 of the 1998 ALDS...

if you dont think brewer was luckier than a four leaf clover inside a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow with a horseshoe in his hand then you didnt watch that inning.....

Cora got extremely lucky with brewer. that was 2018 Cora magic right there.

Brasier looked great but everything he has done lately gave little faith that he would look great. perhaps the brief time off refocused or reinvigorated him....

not sure if i would call it a strength just yet. but it certainly has not been a weakness. not too many of our L's can be laid at the feet of the pen thus far this season. but they havent been "lockdown" either. where do the numbers place our pen thus far?

More of a “pleasant surprise” than a strength.

Still getting an arm that pushes Brewer and Brasier one step down the depth chart would be a beneficial thing...

The Sox got over their hangover. The pen still needs a veteran closer out there to step in I think, but Sox have been getting it done. Go Sox!

BP help and maybe a starter who knows. I don’t know what’s the holdup with eovaldi. Maybe they’re being cautious with him.

Brewer and Cora caught a big break when the Twins had the league's leading hitter sacrifice bunt with two on and no one out . Incredibly dumb move .

I really think that many posters had a preconceived notion that our bullpen would not be good, and due to that preconceived notion, the meltdowns are sticking out far more than the shutdowns. This is understandable, because meltdowns are so much more glaring and so heartbreaking, that they tend to be more memorable. The pen has not been as bad as some posters make it out to be. IMO, the pen has been about the same as last year's pen.

Our bullpen needs some help, as do most bullpens as the season wears on. If Dombrowski adds one or two solid depth arms, the pen should be good to go. It's more important that we get Eovaldi right.
