The Yankee farm might not be as great as you think. MLB.com had only one prospect (Flovial) ranked ahead of Chavis at 69. Loasigia (sp?) was technically ranked ahead at 66, but really he was so close it was essentially equal.

Bleacher Report does give the Yankees 2 top 100 and 3 Tier 2 prospects, but acknowledges at best, the Yankee farm is average. And BR seems to be the only one ranking the Yankee farm as high as 15.

The Sox farm is still awful. It’s just that us Sox fans recognize it...

Jonathan Mayo calls the Yankees minor league pitching "the deepest in baseball". He raved about the fact that you have guys with huge stuff up and down the system from the DSL all the way to AAA. While the top 100 guys are the ones getting all the pub, we were easily able to get McCutchen, Britton and Happ last deadline without touching our top 5 and outside of Britton (Tate was #6), without touching our top 15. Our biggest area of need is the offensive side of things. We have Florial who is coming off a wrist injury that killed his season, but outside of him, we don't have any big time hitters in the A+ and up levels. Below that, we have a ton of talent, especially in the INTL realms. You'll see them soon enough.

When did he write that?

We lost one real impact player in a system loaded with pitching

Yet every single guy you brought up last year posted bad numbers.

On every level of the Yankees minor league system there is at least a pitcher or two with really impressive stuff. I don’t know how many of these guys will develop and I am sure a couple will end up in the pen.

But the bottom line is the Yankees have more guys with better stuff in “a” ball then we have in our entire system,

Remember the hype on Torreyes?

I was just talking about the pitchers they called up last year:

German 85.2 IP 5.57 ERA

Cessa 44.2 5.24

Loaisiga 24.2 5.11

Adams 7.2 7.04

Torreyes has been around a long time with a lot of teams. Not sure why anyone would get excited about him.

But this year, maybe we get the Full Throttle Hype on Tyler Wade...

This is why Mayo has us as a top 10 system. We have guys who are big league ready (Loaisiga), guys close to ready (Abreu, Acevedo, Adams, etc), and guys a long ways off with impressive stuff.

No doubt, you guys have better pitching prospects than we do.

Let's see how it shakes out. If your ML-ready guys repeat their 2018 numbers, maybe a re-evaluation will be needed.

Has? Present tense?

I can’t find anything from Mayo more recent than March 2018 on the subject.

Everyone else has the Yankees in the 15-20 range, largely due to some graduation and trades.

Got a more recent link?

MLB.com contributor Jim Callis on August 2 ranked the Yankee farm system No. 10:

When A.J. Preller took over as the Padres' general manager in August 2014, he hoped to return the club to contention instantly. In his first four months on the job, he traded a slew of prospects -- including Jake Bauers, Zach Eflin, Max Fried, Joe Ross, Mallex Smith and Trea

The Yankees have since traded away at least four prospects, including top prospect Justus Sheffield.

Right - at the same time, given where the Yankees are ... it makes sense to do that! The marginal improvement Paxton could offer would be huge for them.

MLBTR reports...

Speaking of injured hurlers from the division, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe tweets that Red Sox righty Tyler Thornburg began his offseason throwing program earlier than usual this winter, adding that Thornburg’s shoulder has “tested out well” in the early-going.

Yes, but Yankee fans should not still be bragging about having a top 10 farm, right?

I don't know - I am looking forward to Law's annual report material next week.

The farm is not what it used to be. But that's because the Yanks graduated a bunch of top prospects (Torres, Andujar, Frazier) and traded a bunch of other top prospects (Sheffield, Estrada, Tate) for big league pieces. I think the Yanks have a great outlook for the next several years coming off a 100 win season and still having a solid farm. Their upper level prospects are more likely to be depth/average starters, but that's really all they need at this point with their current roster. The Yankees' most highly talented players are years away from potentially being called up and that's fine considering how the big league team is setup for the next few years.

Sounds like us 2-3 years ago.

So you're saying we have a victory parade in our future?! I'll take it.

Neither the Red Sox nor the Yankees placed a player on Baseball America's Top 100 prospect list released today:

Pretty unlikely Yankees are still a top ten system.

Sox are stlll 30, safe bet. No change there...

Probably means the Yanks aren't even top 15.

I thought the Mariners had been in last place.

Past tense.
