Bogey moved back on a ball he did not have to, then slowly set his feet and then threw.

He should have been out.

Again, I'm not saying Price looked good...just not as bad as many think he looked.

I agree that Bogey's try on the ball was not a best effort. Hed has gotten in the habit of taking a little hop before he releases the ball and his throws have been accurate but barely on time. This time that little delay may have cost an out and led to 2 runs. I noticed Bregman on a similar play recognize thed situation and get rid of the ball quickly. The ALCS will need best efforts on every play if we are to win the series.

Right. What Fred was trying to say was that no team has done this in the LCS.

Oh.

Well that it’s been done in another 7 game series makes the LCS factor a bit circumstantial...

Agreed, it's pretty useless trivia.

So after watching 2 games and noting performances of pitchers and in field players, how would you stack the lineup? I assume Moreland is still not available, except for pinch hitting.

The pitching we face has been and will be very hard to hit so don't hold it against our guys for not going 2 for 4 or something, but recognize the overmatched situations.

My lineup is pretty much as it has been and I think Cora is doing a good job:

Betts in RF is out best overall player. Fielding, running and hitting have createdd a problem for the Astros.

Beni in LF has been good in the post season. Decent fielding, good speed on the bases and often makes contact while infrequently swinging at bad pitches. Best things happen when he pulls.

Matinez at DH is dangerous and a pro hitter. He needs to adjust to the sliders that have been getting him out. He will and may well give us a big hit tonight.

Bogaerts at SS is genrally good in the field, has decent speed and is a dangerous hitter. Good protection in the lineup for JDM.

Pearce at 1st has made a number of pro plays at 1st despite not being a geat fielder. Has hit well and is a solid presence lengthening the lineup.

Devers at 3rd. While he may well botch a throw in a critical situation, Nunez may also and Devers may well run into one. A decent bat who may get hot and hit a mistake out.

Holt at 2nd. Holt is not as good defensively as KInsler but Kinsler just looked totally overmatched against velocity. Nunez is a liability there. Holt is the best choice in my book.

Vasquez at catcher. He is a decent backstop and at least there is a chance of something offensively. Leon is 2 for 45 which is cold as ice. makes me wonder why we kept Swi on the roster.

JBJ in CF. I like him up right before Betts. He is a top level CF and has chipped in with a few hits when it counts. is best when he keeps his head down and eyes on the ball as are all hitters.

The only pitcher that I would not use again is Workman, unless in a cleanup role should we be getting blown out.

Obviously referring to the idea that people can be motivated by being pissed off about having failed the last time...

"If you need motivation in Game 3 of the ALCS, you better check yourself," said the first-year skipper. "Because you win three more games, you go to the show. And that's what should motivate you. Alex has different ways of motivating himself and whatever. I'll leave it at that." - alex cora

There's all different types of motivation. Some say the Sox used Aaron Judge blasting 'New York, New York' as extra motivation going into Yankee Stadium.

He really wasn't that bad.

Bogey plays a ball in slow motion leads to 2 runs..

Super blooper base hit leads to more.

Take those away and Price gets the win.

Nobody is saying he was good. He just wasn't THAT bad.

Take away the bullet and Kennedy would have enjoyed a nice Friday afternoon car ride...........

Take away Meatball to Gonzalez, it would have been tied. Or even all those things going right, Bogey makes the play, Springer, doesn't get the hit, it still would have been tied. Edited by OH FOY!

1986 Mets?

I heard that statistic during the game 2 broadcast. I guess it wasn't totally accurate. That said, its not a position the Sox wanted to get into I am sure.

How did I miss the Brasier vs. Sanchez kerfuffle in ALDS Game 2? That was pretty epic. I think Sanchez understood pretty well what Brasier was saying to him – did you see his swing on strike 3? He swung so hard that he stumbled and almost lost his balance. Of course, that giant swing also meant that he was about a half-hour late on the 97-mph fastball. But he was clearly trying to hit it to the mid-Atlantic region. Fun moment.

he promptly hit a 683' HR in his next AB tho.....

Pretty much how I see it. His throws are pretty reliable now, but at a price.

I like oldtimer's lineup, but have never disagreed with whatever Cora decides. With a lefty starter, Nunez and/or Kinsler could play this evening. However, Holt is actually pretty decent against lefties, and Devers is a threat Nunez is unlikely to be.

Hi all,

One quick observation: If you thought Eovaldi earned himself a big payday in the Yankees series, another quality start tonight may send him into the elite range.

While it would certainly bolster his worth, I highly doubt it puts him in the "elite range".

Like it or not I think Nunez and Kinsler are going to start tonight against lefty Keuchel. We shall see.

Yes, I see that. Kinsler needs to up his game and it probably makes sense for Nunez to be in but we need him to stay focused. Can't afford dead wood in the lineup.

Eovaldi does have elite stuff. What he needs is consistent command and he could be considered an elite starter. He hasw been very good for the Sox and his value could soar as teams will be interested. A younger version of Verlander? Not yet, but with that kind of potential.

Eovaldi's biggest selling point might be his age...

He's had elite stuff his whole career, but has never shown he can harness it on a consistent basis. Plus, there is an injury history that is worrisome.

There's a reason we were able to trade for him without giving up too much.

He really has pitched well for us overall.

His injury history will cost him years, but his performance this year will help him get a good base salary.

If Human DL Trips like Drew Smyly and Michael Pineda can both get 2 year $10mill contracts that cover one season when neither is expected to throw a pitch, a 2 year $15-20mill deal for Eovaldi coming off a season where he pitched over 100 IP might not be unreasonable...

Eovaldi has a maddening ability to get blown out when you least expect it. He is either dominant or absolutely abysmal and very little inbetween. If he has found a way to battle through when he doesn't have his top stuff, then he will be an elite pitcher

Oh, I never intended to imply he won't make much money, but it seems many here are willing to pay him big money based on us viewing a short clip of his career and projecting a consistency going forward that is probably a false hope.

My guess is that his future cost will not match his future performance level.

But then he is also only 28, which is fairly young for a pitcher approaching free agency...

If I read you right, you are saying that you should only pay a pitcher big money and give him an extended contract if he has consistently shown elite pitching over a long time frame. I am not trying to put words in your mouth but that is what I think you are implying. The problem with pitchers who have shown consistency over a long period is they also have a lot of innings under their belt and may be starting into decline. Perhaps Price is an example of that.

Why is Nunez starting over Devers? I don’t care if it’s a lefty. Devers can hit lefties. Remember his blast of Chapman last year? Chapman is a very hard throwing lefty. Of course Nunez leaves JD on third. Should of been a 3 run first. Oh well happy to see we got early runs. We’ll need as many as we can get!
