Even though we’re resting guys getting Workman and Erod and Cuestes get lit up by Yankees make me nervous facing them in playoffs we’re resting guys so offense doesn’t worry me but pitchers still need to pitch well for the few innings there used

Strange observation since as everyone says these games don't count. They guys are just goofing around filling out the stat lines, and on Friday they will magically flip their internal motivation switches and play like the All-Stars that they are. The theory that you play like you practice is probably discredited since Parcells said it, but there may be some truth there.

Rockies-Dodgers; Cubs-Brewers all currently winning through about 6 in games that count. Could be 2 single gamers for Division win vs WC slot. That's a pitching rotation wrecker.

Where are our Yankee friends today? Don't they know this game is for the season series?

Jacko isn't here to tell us how great Lasagna and Sheffield are going to be.Strange

See it does matter ! My real point is that I don't think the guy pitching or the guy at bat in each sequence is thinking about what matters or not, and doesn't perform much differently in these type games than a serious game. I think they actually play to their ability in each specific transaction . But in any case, it is much more enjoyable to hang a 10 spot on NYY than to get swept at Fenway by lopsided scores.

I certainly agree that the players who are in the game are trying to perform.

My only point is that the teams don't really care as you can see by the lineups and subs and pitching choices. It's gahbage time.

And yes, it always feels better beating the Yanks than losing - even in actual pre-season games, crazy as it is.

He absolutely would have been here if Sheffield mowed us down. Didn't work out that way.

Been a wild ride this season. I've loved watching when I can. I've just gotten past a viral infection, and I'm ready for the playoffs. I know some of you had concluded earlier on in the year that I would have the honor of making the Game 1 GT. Just making sure this is still the case, as I wouldn't want to upset anybody

It does look to me like Cora is going to be dependent on erstwhile starters to give him the horses to make it through to the 8th and 9th innings. I thought that was what he would do. Evo, E-rod and Wright to the pen, probably Vlaz or BJ as well. He might even go match up to get through 8th innings if he can get guys like E-rod and Evo and Wright to take 2-3 inning chunks of a game when they are needed. His regular season late innings guys will end up getting an out or two of the 8th instead of an inning until Kimbrel comes in and takes the 9th.

The problem with that idea (might as well criticize my own comment) is that outs are like innings for pitchers in the post season. The pressure is just enormous. So I just don't know how starters getting post season middle innings relief work will respond to it. Heck I don't know how our regular relief pitchers other than Kimbrel will respond.

If Kelly makes it he will be the last guy pulled into the post season pen. Pom, Hembree, Scott, Thorny are all NO's. If it comes down to Workman v Kelly I am taking Work.

Every NL team playing for thier respective divisions are scoring in double digits, as are the Sox. None of these teams faced any competition today, especially the one played in Fenway

I'm sure Pomeranz's mindset walking off the mound after pitching a good inning is "F all of you, I am good and people like me"

so tomorrow there is a pair of game 163

Yep. Then the winners move on to the NLDS while the losers play Tuesday in the NL Wild Card Game with the winner of that starting the NLDS on Thursday. Crazy week with lots of potential travel for one team.

Another regular season gone by, with spectacular results , the best ever for the Red Sox. But now, it's game on to see what else they can do. Some pretty good performances today especially on the mound.

The 4 NL teams needing to win did so by a combined score of 48-5.

For all you who believe you're only as good as your last game, you must think we'll go 11 and oh in the playoffs.

And for those who would manage by longterm WAR, good luck to them.

This game was a reality check for the Yankees fans, who were getting a little too full of themselves for no reason whatsoever. When the game counts, the Sox are there!
