But it's supposed to promote the game as something that's fun for the whole family!

Providing more clean rest rooms at Fenway would make it MORE fun for the whole family!

;)

I normally prefer to disagree with dustcover, but I love the OP, the preference for clean restrooms at Fenway (which is photogenic on TV but a pesthole in reality), and the reference to Bill Veeck.

Well said.

What might be entertaining is a bench-clearing brawl in the funny unis.

Maybe MLB needs to institute a rule that you can only join a bench-clearing brawl if you are dressed in a clown costume, complete with oversized shoes...

Admittedly , I am a grumpy old man , but I think the cutesy nicknames on the back are worse than the uniforms. Not the least bit amusing. Gag inducing.

I was okay with the pink uniforms on Mother's Day to promote breast cancer awareness. Then, they added the blue uniforms on Father's Day to promote prostate cancer awareness, and I was okay with that too. I'm also okay with the red, white, and blue uniforms to celebrate our great country on the 4th of July.

But come on. They have gone too far with these Player Weekend unis. Before we know it, they will be doing a special type of uni every weekend.

IIRC some of those have been auctioned off. Maybe it's being done as a money-maker?

Yeah that part is a little too reminiscent of the XFL...

I do believe they auction a lot of those uniforms off.

Maybe Sale could buy one and perform an exorcism on it.

No too risky. In fact, keep him away from anything sharp. I want him cutting his steak with a spoon at this point in the season.

Cutting a steak with a spoon might cause issues too. Best thing would be to cut it up for him like a little kid.

Sigh. Fine. I’ll do it then

Or purée it and give him a straw...

When you start counting the number of weekends when they don't wear the traditional unis, it starts to add up. Part of the fun (magic) of going to the ballpark for me is to watch my team in its traditional white home uniform and if they are playing against the Yankees, I want them wearing their traditional gray uniform. It is a classic matchup and i want them wearing their classic uniforms. I don't even like the Friday night red jersey. I see lots of games, but what about the kid that gets to see a game for the 1st time and they have to watch their team play in those hideous softball uniforms or the pink or blue or camo or red, white and blue unis? What a let down.

Plus, they spelled Rick Porcello’s nickname wrong.

I have always prefeered Porcelain. Beautiful to look at, but you drop it, you bought it . Solid, but brittle and susceptible to breakage.

Ha. Nicely done.

It may be a good thing he was on the DL for Players Weekend.

I agree. All the alternate uniforms are getting to be too much.

I just got a grey Betts jersey in the mail today. It’s thinner than I’m used to for a jersey, but it’s nice and light and better in the heat. I’d like to pick up a few more, a red Benintendi one, or a white Bogaerts one, or a blue JD Martinez one... so I guess I don't agree about the too many different jersey thing. I’ve never gone for the St Pat’s green or crazy camo, never will. I had a blue Mo Vaugn one, back then I think it was considered a ST jersey (?)

I've never owned a Red Sox jersey. My kids have owned several.

I agree.

All these alternate unis are about one thing. Making more money.

I look forward to seeing the white home unis. It's like walking up into the right field bowl and seeing all that green.

I like the aesthetics of the game. Teams like the Padres can do the ugly uni bit. They have no established traditions to uphold.

The Padres tradition IS ugly uniforms.

I agree, I hate all the gimmick uniforms.

Give me the home pinstripes or the road grays.

Leave the gimmick uniforms to the teams that have little to no tradition and need the gimmicks to sell jerseys.

As long as they contain our original colors I don’t see a problem. The Padres can get away with the all that because San Diego has a huge miltary poulation and San Diego translated means whale’s vagina.
