Padres got a real good Young Catcher, for a rental Reliever. Smart move by the Padres. Not a Rental my mistake.

The best value of all the positions to build a Farm is Relievers.

It’s possiblle it could give them some advantage come winter. I hope he does stay there quite honestly.

I would think the Dodgers feel confident they can sign Machado. They have the money . And , much like New York , L.A. is a magnet for many of these athletes. Look at the NBA. Places like Philly and Milwaukee are not nearly as attractive.

We will see. Seager comes back next year. Machado wants big bucks. Likely might want a contract in the 300 million dollar range.

They dealt a guy they don’t have space for to get an elite reliever and a setup guy with serious promise. When their staff is healthy, they roll out Kluber, Bauer, Carrasco and Clevenger, which is a very strong top 4. Their lineup has two MVP candidates in it. Their pen has killed them. With Miller returning and Hand and Cimber coming on, they’re gonna be tough to beat

As I recall, last year we were hoping for a deadline trade, but they didn't materialize. Now the Guardians and the Dodgers have made strong moves. Can the Astros and the Yankees be far behind. Hope DD is negotiating now for our turn.

FanGraphs projects the Guardians with a rest-of-season won/loss ratio of .614 with the Astros at .627, the Yankees at .618 and the Red Sox at .583:

My guess: 5 innings, 2 earned runs, 5 k's, 3 bb's and gets the call up.

Last night, Pom went 6 innings, 1 earned run, 5 k's, 2 bb's. I still believe he's getting the call up to replace ERod.

Interestingly, if FanGraphs projection of winning % played out as shown, the Yankees and Red Sox would each have 105 wins , leading to the dreaded one game playoff to see who gets the one game WC showdown. to see who will be on the road , likely in Houston for the ALDS. This would be a not great outcome.

You have to beat whose in front of you. This team has flame out the last two seasons. Pressure this season to get past the divisional round.

I believe 90 was his highest velocity. Hard to believe a guy that big and strong can’t hit 94 to 95.

And regarding Machado, I believe the Dodgers fully intend to re-sign Machado, will he? Who knows. But I doubt they pay that price and just plan on letting him walk.

It is his mechanics. During one national telecast Jim Kaat criticized Pomerantz repeatedly because he wasn't or couldn't push off the rubber properly.

They just get to pitch him the job for an extra 3 months.

I don't know if the Dodgers plan to bring back Machado. (1) Doesn't Seager return next year? (2) J.Turner is signed through 2020 for 37 million.

Machado won't be able to play SS for the Dodgers next year. I guess they could sign him for 3b and then try to move Turner's contract or use Turner as a utility player. That's an expensive utility player, however. Also, if Machado really wants to play SS, the Dodgers aren't the team for him.

Two years ago the trade of two years and two months of lefty reliever Andrew Miller netted outfielder Clint Frazier (then the No. 44 prospect), lefthander Justus Sheffield (then No. 81, now No. 41) and two other pitchers.

Four years and twelve days ago, the trade of 2 months of Andrew Miller netted the Sox 7 MLB seasons of Eduardo Rodriguez.

Francisco Mejia is a steep price for a relief pitcher.. Damn.

Welcome to a seller's market. There's only a few really terrible teams and at least 20 teams still thinking they have a shot. Deals are going to be hard to find and very expensive when you do.

I guess they could move Bellinger to OF, Turner to 1B and slot Machao at 3B, but that's a lot of moves to get Machado to a position (3B) he doesn't even want to play.

We could see a lot of waiver deals as teams thinking their in it on July 31st, find out they are not by the end of August.

Also, as of right now, 9 of the 15 AL teams ate 8.5 or more games behind the last WC slot. They'd have to pass 2 of these teams: NYY, SEA or OAK. I can see the TBR or LAA passing Oakland but not the other two. My guess is 9 AL teams already see themselves as out of it.

The NL is different. Only 4 teams are 10 or more games out of the WC slot. The other 11 are all within 5.5 games of the last slot. That may change by July 31st, but maybe not. There could be some more out by the end of August.

Pom is simply not, & never will be a very athletic guy. Can he 'pitch?' Yes! Can he be highly effective pitching in the MLB? Sure. Still, if his mechanics are off just a little, as they too often are, he is below avg.

For your avg. Joe, the guy is just a bit soft. He's NOT an athlete with the raw strength to hurl. He never will be. If he's not 100%, mechanics 100%, & able to ramp it up & bring at least some soft cheese, good MLB players are going deep dish pizza on his squidgy pizza arss.

Crazy! The deepest dish mlb SP lineup is going THIN crust!

Can this Sox SP lineup possibly keep winning without Pom, E-Rod, ...... ? It's gonna be fun finding out! :)

And our pitching coaches are worthless.

Tampa qualifies as a buyer by this logic, but they have already done some selling, trading Colome and Span...

Agree, and the good GM's will really do their homework. They will scour everywhere, not just Triple AAA, or Double AA. Duquette did this with the O's.
