Sox are in on Moose

There is no reason whatsoever for the Sox to be in on Moose. Unless they are trying to drive up the price for the Yankees.

The priority is now a starting pitcher.

A starter and a reliever should be the priority now. 2b has been pushed down.

^^This.

ERod is going to be out for a while. Wright is nowhere near close to returning. Who knows what we'll get from Pom when he returns? Johnson is now our #4 starter, with a big ??? on who #5 is. We need a starter.

Why would NY want Moose? Andujar is better

Just going by the trade rumors I've heard. Maybe they're looking for more experience on the team?

Maybe they're going to trade Andujar for a pitcher?

Rodriguez with “serious damage” in the ankle. Not sure how you have “serious” damage and not operate on a prime athlete. They’re making it sound like a grade 3 sprain yet most grade 3 sprains in professional athletes will be repaired operatively

I expect that starting pitching is now a menu item - that said, the market for real impact starting pitching is really terrible. Aside from Cole Hamels (and maybe even him by the 2018 results) there is nobody who is really much of an improvement over Wright and/or Pomeranz being healthy.

But Wright and Pom aren’t healthy

Pom is throwing in AAA. If the Sox announced that he's rejoining the rotation after the AS Break, I wouldn't be shocked.

As of yesterday, Cora said that Pom still had not regained his velocity, and noted that he still had work to do.

Pomeranz is starting in AAA on Wednesday. He will probably suck again. If he does suck again, I don't see how the Red Sox could let him rejoin the rotation. The bullpen, yes; the rotation, no.

Rodriguez will be in a boot for 2 weeks and then reevaluated. Thus, the Red Sox will know more about his health prior to the deadline. Nevertheless, you would think that a SP is now a high trade priority.

My guess: 5 innings, 2 earned runs, 5 k's, 3 bb's and gets the call up.

There are plenty of better options on the trade market than Pomeranz. We aren't talking about the Pomeranz of last year, we are talking about the Pomeranz who has lost velocity and looks pretty cooked.

But even more important will be his velocity. If his velocity is terrible again, and his curve isn't effective, you can't put him back in the rotation. He won't survive more than a few innings anyway. Velazquez is a better starting option.

I don't know why 2b has been pushed down. You won't find a worse player on this team than Nunez--a negative WAR of -1.2 and an OPS+ of 74 (he is as terrible as Pomeranz). I guess you like Holt at 2b?

1 fWAR player. 2b might be his best position.

i dont like holt at 2b at all. i have been pushing for 2b for a long time now this season. but with the injuries to our SP that is the priority.

based on how quickly (ie: slowly) E-rod has recovered from previous injuries i expect him to be out for awhile.

based on how quickly (ie: slowly) wright has recovered from previous injuries i expect him to be out for awhile.

based on the fact that i never wanted a 2 pitch SP in our rotation i dont expect much from Pom.

upgrading 2b would be very much welcomed. but with limited resources pitching has become our most important need. pitching = parades.....

The gettable guys on the market are warm bodies who can pitch 5 innings. Just like Pomeranz.

And don't have Pom's upside.

I don't even want Pomeranz in the bullpen if his velocity is down. If he can't dominate at AAA he really has no business coming back to the MLs.

I would like to get another starter. I don’t like pomeranz because his velocity has been terrible. It doesn’t have to be a great pitcher.

With E-Rod's injury, it is hard to argue against starting pitching as the top priority.

As far as the bullpen goes, it is possible the Red Sox can rely on some internal options: (1) Ty Buttrey, who is dominating in AAA. (2) D.Feltman might be on the fast track to the major leagues -- he should be in Portland soon. If he dominates in Portland, the Red Sox might decide to put him on the 40 man roster and take a look at him in September.

If the Sox are still in a dogfight with the Yankees (and does anyone think they aren’t going to be?), they won’t have the luxury of taking a look at anyone in September.

The Yankees are falling out of it. 4 and 1/2 out, pretty soon they will be 8 or 9 games back. The Yankees need to make some trades to stay competitive, but Cashman is confused and doesn't know what to do.

Oh baby. I'm feeling it!

maybe maybe not - they will need more pitchers as they rotate their staff through.

I mean right now, there is virtually no chance that EITHER the Sox or Yanks miss the playoffs. I am not sure how much either team will chase the division vs getting healthy for October.

They should blow up their farm and go for it all this year.

Last start it was reported he was just touching 90 mph. He's not effective at that velocity as we have seen.

It's sad. One year he's great, the next he's gone.
