@nickcafardo

Hanley Ramirez is a free agent at 1 p.m.

Soon this long national nightmare will be over.

once he is picked up and then gets the 497 i wouldnt be shocked if his agents put something out there tho...

certainly there have been more ridiculous lawsuits....

From the Gloucester Daily Times:

Ramirez opened the season needing 497 plate appearances for his $22 million, 2019 option to vest. He was well on his way there, but resigned to the bench, those at-bats and dollars would have evaporated.

They'll never say the option was a factor — a grievance from the MLBPA would surely follow — but ultimately, the Red Sox decided Ramirez wasn't worth that headache.

A team seeking to sign Hanley Ramirez would likely draft a contract that frees the club from any obligation for the vesting option. Ramirez and his agent would decide whether to accept the terms.

JD has almost equaled Hanley's first year in half of the at bats. (HRS and RBI's) And cheaper. Nope a little more money haha. Edited by OH FOY!

I can't believe how many posters have gotten suckered into responding to this trolling.

I understand that some posters are not interested in the minutiae of employee law.

But others apparently are.:)

That's the point you're getting out of all of this???

Not that we have listed multiple sources over and over that state a position you don't agree with. But I'm sure you are VERY familiar with MLB contracts and are an expert in what it says in their bargaining agreement. I look forward to your continued postings where you don't listen to anyone else and believe that you have some secret knowledge that hasn't been presented by any reputable sources.

In lieu of listing all of my credentials, I'm just going to tell you to find something else to stir up because you're not doing a very good job here.

How about if I just repost what I said before...

"I can't believe how many posters have gotten suckered into responding to this trolling."

And you scoured the Internet for something that might slightly support your argument, even to the Gloucester Times? You have far too much trolling time on your hands!! :D

so are you saying that he will play the rest of this season under 2 contracts?

or is your position that Hanley will not sign with another team the rest of this year so that he can go after the vesting money?

i honestly have no idea what your position is.....

To be precise, I have raised questions but taken no firm position. As I write last weekend:

I don't pretend to know the rules as well as Dave Dombrowski and his advisers.

Perhaps a black-and-white answer in found in the MLB Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the terms of the Red Sox contract with Hanley Ramirez.

Alternatively, it's a gray area and Dombrowski, upon legal advice, decided to push the envelope.

For all I know Ramirez could be fine with a voided vesting option.

I'm interested in how the move is viewed by the union and by Red Sox players, current and prospective.

I still hope to find a definitive answer but posters should feel free to ignore this forum discussion if the issue is of no interest.

To be honest: I ignore bet offers.

I did not mean to be impolite. I don't bet (beyond making investment decisions and other life choices), but I am now curious about your proposal.:)

pretty sure everyone in oregon is mormon.

Mormons reportedly make up 3.9 percent of Oregon's population but Danny Ainge, perhaps the state's most famous Mormon, moved to Boston to become general manager of the Celtics.:)

I am a non-Mormon, church-going agnostic who doesn't bet on sports.

A representative of the MLB Players Association responded to my inquiry with: "The terms of the contract from which he is released (such as the option year which never vested) don’t carry forward to his next (if any) contract."

I'll accept that answer and let the matter drop although I specifically asked whether the vesting option was voided by operation of law or by the terms of the Red Sox contract.

Warm regards.

Aw, man, I was looking forward to a segment on Infowars on why the mainstream media is hiding the truth about Hanley's vesting option.
