With Pedey and Thornbug coming back, do we trade Brian Johnson to make room?

With Wright back it feels like his role is a little expendable. He's a decent spot starter, think we could get something decent if we packaged him with someone like Swihart?

Who says that Thornburg will be great shakes. Lets see him perform before getting rid of people. I'd rather send someone down with options temporarily and see Thornburg for a game or three.

Any reason you think the Sox won't just demote Bobby Poyner? They've already done it once this year...

It’d be a less exciting thread title.

Poyner's one roster spot, but what do you do with the other? Pedey and Thornburg are both coming back at essentially the same time

Sadly one of my favorite Redsox will be traded ....Blake I hope gets a real shot playing everyday Catcher for someone .I would love for this guy to show the world his talents and talks about how f***ing stupid the Redsox Handled his career .

Or he can just suck and we can all make fun of you for eternity.

When pedroia comes back, one option is to put Nunez on the dl.

Thornburg should not be allowed anywhere near the Boston locker room until he can throw at something near major league level. What he throws now is not nearly good enough!

OK. So we can trade Swihart for Bartolo Colon and then demote him. Colon easily takes up two roster spots...

Yeah I'm going with this option. Blake has never shown to be productive at the ML level, there are thousands of guys who looked like great prospects until they see major league change ups.

That's what I thought too, but he's actually got some pretty encouraging numbers in starts. Almost off of his bad numbers come from his relief appearances. Here's the article if you're interested: https://redsoxunfiltered.com/2018/05/15/examining-brian-johnson-trade-market/

I wish E-Rod and Pomeranz had stayed out a little longer so we could get a better look at Velazquez and Johnson as starters.

If Swihart was adequate defensively anywhere on the field, Cora would have been using him by now (Devers was swooning, Nunez looks hurt, JBJ couldn't hit anything, the Catchers struggled for a long while). Whether or not the Sox messed up his development, Swihart just doesn't seem to be ML ready right now and may never get there.

Anyway, I'm not sure Brian Johnson has much trade value. Spin him for a low ceiling AA arm? What's the point in that trade? May as well just try to sneak him through waivers.

Either Holt is sent down or Swihart is traded. It's not like they'd trade Pedroia before he comes back on Friday...

To acquire the expiring contract of Texas lefty reliever Jake Diekman, what would the Red Sox need to add to an offer of six years of left-hander Brian Johnson and four arbitration seasons of Blake Swihart?

Diekman will earn $2.7125 this year before becoming a free agent at the season's end.

Much to your cxhagrin.

Of course there is always another Holt DL stint or a Swihart DFA as a possibility.

Or Swihart to the DL. All his bench time may have caused a hemorrhoid flare up...

They'd have to add something for that? Diekman hasn't really been that good the past few years.

Does Jake Diekman share that characteristic with Blake Swihart and Brian Johnson?

Diekman is also on the back end of his career and has no arbitration years left. I don't think Johnson will amount to much, but there is still some sort of potential left in Swihart.

Nunez could be put on the 10 day DL, but with Pedey not playing everyday, maybe we want to keep him on the roster.

We do have the "hotter" Holt to play when Pedey sits.

Harmony if Blake goes to Texas and rakes like I know he will and we are stuck with two fat f***s at catcher who can't hit there own weight ???? Will you sound the Alarm I called this 6 months ahead of all the folks throwing dirt on his career? I want Moon and some others to self ban themself for two weeks ...and upon return must kiss my Irish ass for a year....figuratively of course .
