Of course, the Yankees may likely lose prior to playing the Red Sox. If the season ended today, the Yankees would have a one game playoff with the Mariners. If they win that, then I *think* the division series would be Sox vs. Guardians and Yankees vs. Astros. The Astros are very tough, so the Yankees really have to run the gauntlet to make the World Series.

I could be wrong, but I think there is some rule where you can't play a team in your own division in the first round....so the Yankees would likely draw the Astros and the Sox would play the Guardians....long way to go though.

That rule was tossed out when they brought in the new Wild Card system. For example last year the Dodgers played the D'Backs in the first round.

Got it. Still, the Yankees would draw the Astros I think.....if things are unchanged and the Yankees beat Seattle.

Why? Boston is up 4 games on the Astros.

I am not sure how the brackets would work...but the way things are now the Sox have the best record; Yankees #2 (and I am assuming the can beat Seattle); Astros #3; Cleveland #4. Would we not draw Cleveland and the Yankees would get the Astros in the first series?

No. The wild card team plays the team with the best record.

Good, eliminate the Yankees at the earliest opportunity, if they win the WC play-in. Can't be reluctant to play them since you have to beat them sooner or later to get to the WS. However, if they lose the play-in WC game , no tears shed here.

If we face the Yanks after the WC play-in game, they will likely have used Severino to win that game. Bring 'em on!

Besides, the Astros will probably be just as hard to beat (round 1 or round 2).

I ain't ascared of nobody!

To make it to the WS, we'll likely have to play NY & HOU.

I'd prefer facing the Yanks with no Severino for the first 2 games and then have to face HOU.

I'm not saying it will be easy, but to me, this might be the best we can hope for, except for the Yanks losing the play-in game.

Even if the wild card team has the second-best record.

Yeah, this new system is so much fairer.

The Yankees will be easier to beat than the Astros.

Moot point though. They aren't getting past the wildcard game.

Simple question requiring a simple answer: 9 Grand slams this season Xander (3), Mookie (2), JD, Moreland, Devers. Who am I missing? Thanks!

5-5 in their last 10. They are definitely due for a 2nd half swoon. The team that wins the deadline doesn't always reap the rewards.

Well the MFY would have to fall apart completely not to make the play in game. I don't see that over a lousy 60 odd games down the stretch especially now that they have Britton and I don't like them picking up Happ either.

Our problem going into post season is that there are better pens in the AL than what we can muster and we don't have the juice to really upgrade there. I think DD will have no choice but to try to bring in somebody and see if he catches lighting in a bottle.

Yeah, but aren't we allowed to dream a little? :D

Nonsense.

The Ms and the As are closing in.

The Yankees should be afraid. Very afraid.

This pen is not in the same league as some of the other post season pens. If this pen survives deep into a post season run it will be with a massive assist from the rotation.

We need to take care of business. Lets not be concerned with the others and we won't have to be if we play good ball. Five hits tonight wasn't our best display but then we only gave up 2.

This pen had a great run at the start of the season. If Kelly can get back into gear, running Hembree/Kelly/Barnes/Kimbrel out there turns the game into a 5 inning game.

Well said. The Sox need to take care of their own business, one game at a time.

I feel good about this team and the division title, but there's still a lot of games remaining.

On paper, our pen has done very well for two years. In some ways it seems like they have been under appreciated or over performing and not getting the respect they have deserved.

That being said, I sure would like to see us add a solid set up guy.
