It’s mechanics. Bradley just needs to be smart enough to realize it. A simple drop in the hands or slight delay in triggering will cause you to go from on time to late on good fastballs. It’s all mechanical. He just has shown a stubbornness to the media to adjust.

The stubbornness is the reason for his extended slumping. Must be infuriating to coach him.

It's rarely as simple as "dropping the hands".

I was never a very good hitter, except in slow pitch softball. I got countless advice and suggestions. Most of the time, they messed me up more than helped, at least it felt that way to me.

His swing doesm't look different to me. I keep wondering if it's an eyesight issue.

But then that is one of those things I assume he has had checked by now...

I don't know that it's stubborness at this point. To "fix" his swing, he has to unlearn his current one. Unlearning something you've been doing your entire life is not easy, and it's made much harder when you are playing every day.

The time to really do this was the off season.

I keep going back to the question, does he even like playing baseball?

He's had to fix his swing multiple times in his career already tho?

I heard that one. It didn't help.

I sucked as a hitter. I walked enough to save face.

My skills were defense and running.

Mookie Betts is hitting the ball like a slow pitch softball player. I don't think I've seen another player other than Barry Bonds in his steroid prime where I expect an extra base hit every time he is up.

Mookie is so good that it's actually a little surprising when he looks bad in an at-bat.

Betts has played 44 games. If you multiplied his numbers by 4, you'd have this!

.368 64 140

195 runs scored

44 SBs

120 2B + 3B

and a 15.5 WAR

I hope they don't have to play 176 regular season games this year.

Stay healthy Mook.

Actually, no. I checked and found that that we won 3 of the 4 games Mookie missed this season. The guy who needs to stay healthy and play every day is JBJ because our winning percentage is higher when he plays than when he doesn't.

What is JBJ's winning % when Mookie doesn't play? It's gotta be over .800!

DFA Mookie. Extend JBJ.

At least he doesn't have a negative oWAR this season!

Mookie has options left. Maybe he gets sent down to make room for Pedroia... ;)

You know, I saw him play a few games at Pawtucket back in 2014. I thought he looked really good, but my eye test told me that he needed more seasoning. It would be a good time now for us to send him down and make sure that he can hit AAA pitching. Also, it'd save him from being tired at the end of the season as he wouldn't be playing a full year with the big club!

Maybe someone down there would even insist that he bat third where he belongs! Plus he could even get a little work playing second base while he is there.

Good idea. This frees up space for Swihart to start in LF and JD to play RF. OR THEY CAN HAVE HANLEY PLAY LF AND SWIHART START AT 1B.

Mookie is going to be some kind of expensive to keep.

And probably worth it.

I know that I'm in the minority, but I would not give Mookie a 10 year deal, as much as I love the guy. If that's what it's going to take to keep him, I would sadly have to let him go.

That's a whole lot of years, so it depends on how much a year.

Giving him a 10 year deal now puts almost all of the years within a reasonable age frame.

He'd be 35 to start his last season of the extension. He could still be great at age 33-35. It's not like the Pujols deal that goes to age 41 with personal services payments going on for another 10 years afterwards..

I'd probably go to $300M/12 (maybe 11).

10 years - 290 and you have your franchise player locked up. Do it - Do it Mr. Holmes!
