Me too, but I didn't have the courage to go there on this board. :D

Having Iggy at SS would create a serious hole in our offense, but given the way XBo has been hitting, who wouldn't?

We could do worse.

Don’t worry S5, you’ll get blamed anyway for bringing up Iglesias even though you didn’t. Hahaha

Ya. I know. It's friggin noontime now and still no word. The suspense is killing me. Really. Well, not literally killing me, but ... you know.

I'm on life support as we speak!

Maybe we can cut a deal with Arizona to bring back marrero for cash?

If bogey’s archilles is torn, we can put him on the 60 day dl.

Even better Stephen Drew just retired. I think he would jump at a chance to return again!

Iggy coming back is the only way to have SCM33 back on here full time.

Do we want to get into some good Saltalamacchia talk as well?

if he ends up back with us i will be most happy for you.

Thank you. I don't expect it to happen but as I posted earlier, we could do worse!!

Really hoping it was a cramp or muscle spasm. I couldn’t tell if it was his ankle or his shin at first. Later I couldn’t shake the vision of Dan Marino simply (nonchalantly even) walking off the field (wasn’t hit during the play. Usually had a great offensive line protecting him those days) and tore his Achilles. We’ll just have to wait and see. Sucks.

From NESN - a cracked bone in his ankle. 10 day DL. Lin has been called up.

https://nesn.com/2018/04/xander-bogaerts-injury-red-sox-shortstop-placed-on-10-day-disable-list/

It's not as good as it could have been. I was hoping for a bruise or maybe he scraped the skin off the ankle bone. OTOH, it's not as bad as it could have been either. Some were talking about his Achilles.

Alas, probably this means Iggy won't be coming home. :(

(That was for you, MVP. :D)

Having 3 1/2 game lead going into Yankee series is a big plus.

We can simply focus on winning each series. Going 1-2 vs the Yankees won't be so bad. But it's a big test. We have our 1-2 going in Sale and Price vs damn Yankees.

We could use our own "Shoeless Joe".

10 days doesn't sound like a lot for a cracked bone. I hope it heals quickly. He was one of our hottest players.

DRS

5 NYY (4th)

-8 BOS (28th)

(I might add, the Sox have yet to commit an "error" this season. The Yanks have 10!)

Good stuff.

If you recall, we were one of the worst teams at swinging at pitches that were middle-middle.

Here are some early numbers on that stat so far this year, courtesy of Red Sox Stats

It's interesting to note that the two guys who have not increased their numbers here are both stuggling to start the season.

An achilles tear would likely have been season ending but a cracked bone in the ankle possibly just 10 days? This is a guy who yes I would hate to see rushed back at all. it really looks as those he is poised for a super year. Here's hoping that Lin can get it done in the field. I think that he can.

moon, I posted this in the other thread but it got buried in the bowling posts:

If the Red Sox signed Moose instead of Moreland as you wished: You'd move Devers moves to first. Where does that leave HanRam and JMart?

1) You could use Moose like we do and will Moreland- hardly ever.

2) You keep HRam from vesting.

3) You can more easily trade JBJ, because now you've improved your defense at 3B to help offset the drop off in OF defense with JMart in LF. (Note: you can still "make it work" with JMart as DH in all AL parks with HRam and Moose basically splittting time.)

My main issue with Moreland was the money and extra year. Even Duda would have given us more budget space this summer.

I think it's pretty unlikely Moose would have signed with us to be a backup player.

We could have signed him before JMart.

We could have benched HRam and let Moose play FT (a better option than Moreland). Everytime Devers, JMart, Moose or an OF'er needed a rest, HRam could play. Under Cora's give everyone plenty of rest philosophy, HRam could play 4 out of 6 games- perfect for stopping the vest.

Well, as we now know, their plan was to have HanRam play and hopefully rake and not 'stop the vest'. So obviously this idea and signing Moose was never even a remote possibility.

The realistic alternatives to Moreland were LoMo and Duda.

never even tried to imply DD was interested in Moose.... just that i'd have preferred him to Moreland.

This thread is titled "A Realistic View at 2018". Well, here are the top seasons in team history:

1912: 105-47

1915: 101-50

1946: 104-50

1977: 97-64

1978: 99-64

2004: 98-64

2013: 97-65

I think this season will fit comfortably into the middle of that range :) Aw, who am I kidding, 106 wins! New record!

I'll be thrilled with 100 wins, but we're off to a great start.

To reach 100, we'd have to go 91-61... a 60% winning pct.
