Not in terms of innings pitched per start, which is what sk was talking about.

Pomeranz averaged 5.4 innings per start. In comparison, Sale averaged 6.7, Porcello 6.2, Price 6.0, Rodriguez 5.7, and Fister 5.6. Pomeranz was the lowest out of our regular starters.

Kershaw averaged 6.5 and Strasburg averaged 6.3.

And all the guys who have 1 more inning per start who you are comparing him to are #1's. The other non #1's work 1 more out, maybe 2. Anyway, you and Sk have gotten lost in an irrelevant detail. The issue being discussed was whether or not Pomeranz had outperformed everyone's expectations. He pretty clearly did, and he pretty clearly was our #2 throughout the season, regardless if he averaged 5.3 or 5.7 innings per start.

your are exactly right. zero luck involved.

my main man pythagorean says we were a 93 win team in 2017.

I was going to say something unkind about Pythagoras, but came across this quote of his:

As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower living beings he will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will kill each other.

My man!

in all fairness you used IP per start to crucify Buchholz in my comparison to Price. those extra 2 outs per start meant something then but not now?

@NYPost_Mets

Hearing that Mets bullpen coach Ricky Bones is a possibility to join Alex Cora's staff with the Red Sox.

@redsoxstats

Looking up Bones, seems like he was very popular in the Mets clubhouse and well respected around baseball.

I assume YOTN would be very happy to have a coach on the staff named Bones.

No one should ever doubt Pythagoras again. Ever.

I really don't think that was me. My problem with Buch was never his innings per start. It was his starts per year. And any comparison of Buch was silly as they are not in the same class talent wise -- never at any time. And I will repeat innings per start is not the issue that was being discussed with regard to Pomeranz. It's not an issue that I am arguing for or against. The issue was whether Pomeranz had over performed expectations in 2017. Clearly, he did.

Pythagoras was a mystic who was born on the island of Samos and none of his writings survived. Any mathematics work attributed to him are strictly coincidental. He dealt primarily in philosophy and metaphysics as far as the oral tradition tells us. Use of a therom with his name attached may help justify some baseball anayltics to some, but I am not impresswed.

Sox should have waited on hiring Cora!

Now, we missed out on the best manager in baseball history!

If the Yankees did it - it is a weird move. If Girardi wanted a rest (which it sure sounded like during the playoffs) it makes more sense.

MLBTR...

The Cubs announced today that they’ve hired former Red Sox coaches Chili Davis and Brian Butterfield to their staff. Davis will take over for hitting coach John Mallee, who will not return to the organization. Butterfield will be the team’s third base coach, replacing Gary Jones. Additionally, the Cubs announced that minor league hitting coordinator Andy Haines will be the team’s new assistant hitting coach, replacing Eric Hinske, who took a job as the Angels’ hitting coach earlier this week.

Now take Farrell as Pitching Coach, we'll take Hickey.

That actually could happen!

He's a very good pitching coach.

He may wait to see if he can manage somewhere else first. (Not likely)

I am not expecting the same success from him next season.

A Klingon.

Interesting side note: Despite the many 'K's in Klingon names, the actual language contains very few of them, those are the anglicized versions. In Klingon, the 'q' is used for both the 'k' and the hard 'c'. (Also, the Klingon word for Klingon is "tlhIngan"). The closest Klingon word(s) to Klel (seriously, who named that guy?) would be qul'el, which translates as "to enter the fire" or "go into the fire" or something along those lines. Which, when you think about it, is an apt description for taking the Sox managing job.

Also, TWO Trek references in one baseball thread, neither initiated by me? Awesome.
