I think Dombrowski did a great job of putting a team together for the short term. What I have always disagreed with is that I think he sacrificed our long term to do so.

 

I gave Dombrowski credit for hiring Cora. Sorry, but I'm not convinced that Dombrowski is spearheading the push towards more analytics. That said, kudos to him for being open minded enough to be on board with it.

 

Yup, if DD was heading up a movement towards a greater use of analytics, particularly in the advance scourting dept., it was submarined by Farrel.

More likely, after the Sox front officed decided part of the failures of the '14 and '15 seasons were an over-reliance on stats, DD just went along with what his new bosses wanted.

I think Henry is an analytics guy. After '14 and '15, he panicked. Then he realized that the team was falling further behind in the analytics department, which IMO, is a big part of why Cora was hired. Cora is implementing a lot of the things that were deemed successful in Houston. I think Dombrowski is on board with the idea, but he is not the one who initiating these things. He's the one who hired Tony LaRussa, after all.

He is here now - my opinion is that he obviously values his analytical team just fine. I won't judge him on what the past says he did or didn't do.

I'm sure that it has to be just me but I have always thought that the owner of this team certainly has to love the game and ownership itself but when it comes to simply baseball stuff, never thought of him as that kind of a baseball guy. I think that he has confidence in the staff that he has with DD leading the way when it comes to running the team.

I think Swihart makes the team. Travis could get a call up if theres an injury to either Moreland or HanRam.

There's no ideas for Travis.

 

Unless there's an injury, he's like 5th on the depth chart at 1B.

If Holt goes, Marrero or Lin will take his place-- not a 1Bman.

 

Even if Swihart gets hurt, traded or DFA'd, Travis isn't making the 25 man roster unless HRam or Moreland get hurt, and even then, they may try to get JD to play 1B, or move Devers to 1B, when Pedey returns (Nunez to 3B).

DFA Ramirez and Travis can be a bench bat. He probably needs to start off in Pawtucket and absolutely rake before being called up.

HRam is going to get a long look before DFA'ing or trading is considered.

 

I guess I just don't get all the love for Travis.

 

He's been under .765 the last two years at a much lower level than HRam has been playing. He's got no HR power, and we need power from traditional power positions like 1B. He was at .462 in winter ball (37 PAs).

 

HRam has been at .811 over the last 2 years with 53 HRs. Even if you count his God-awful 2015 season, he still has 72 HRs in 3 years and a .785 OPS, which is still better than Travis' OPS on the farm over the past 2 seasons.

 

I still have hope for Travis, but he's not making the 25 man roster, unless someone gets hurt, and even then, I think Swihart gets more playing time- not ST.
