Year from now we will be glad Moustakas is not on this team, with Devers at 3rd. We'll have to get through some growing pains on his Defense, but it will improve. KC signed him probably to deal him during season, and get Prospects. They are rebuilding.|

GM's around the league thought he was overrated for the money he was asking.

He'll be worth double the $6.5M or more this season on fangraph's value formula.

He's had an 11.7 fWAR over the last 6 years and was at 3.7 last year. He's only 29 this year.

The tank will crack open and spill the next time he slides headfirst into 1b.
On a serious note, if Pedroia comes back healthy, where will Nunez get his playing time? We have 2 first basemen. He isn't a very good Shortstop. He could spell Pedroia at 2nd once a week, but where else will he get playing time... the OF?

I don't think I ever criticized you for that opinion, but yes, you were right.

Right or wrong, GMs are usually judged in hindsight. Ben should have known Pablo & HRam were going to suck and so on.... Theo should have known CC was about to implode.

I'm not being critical of DD on signing JD. I was critical of the Moreland signing before he even signed him, so that is not "hindsight" in my case.

Moose was a steal. We missed out on him. He cost the same as Moreland, but for just 1 year.

Even moving Moose to 1B and keeping Devers at 3B would have been better than signing Moreland. Why is it so wrong to point that out? I hear people pointing out Ben's mistakes years afterwards.

A GM should be judged on the totality of their moves.

Ben gets reamed, unfairly or not, mainly because the team finished last 3 times in his 4 seasons, plus he is held accountable for arguably dismantling a good pitching staff, plus Pablo and Hanley.

Theo generally gets a pass for Crawford because of his overall record.

DD is still in favor with most fans because he has back to back division wins and a pretty good looking 2018 team.

But DD takes his lumps from a few posters here, too.

His best UZR/150 is the OF.

He can make sure JD always plays DH, except in NL parks.

He can give Devers a rest.

Pedey might be better served playing just 5 days a week.

He may be bad at SS, but it's not like Bogey is a plus defender.

Will the reparations cover the pizza and beer, or should I BMOB?

Depends on what type of beer currency I'm paid in. If it's something I don't like, you can take whatever.

Xander and Devers will get more rest this year. I think Nunez is a better fit as 4th OF than JD.

I'm not a DD basher. I like what he's done.

I wish we had Moose instead of Moreland.

I wish we had Scherzer instead of Pablo & HRam.

I wish we had had Joe Shmoe instead of CC.

Whataboutism is no longer tolerated on TS.

How many games per week do you see Nunez playing?

With everybody healthy, we might see this (at most)...

2 of 7 at 2B

2 of 7 in LF

1 of 7 at 3B/SS (1 of 14 each)

5 of 7 at most

Last year, he had 491 PAs. If he gets 5 of 7 PAs, that's 500 out of 700.

He can also PH and PR in games he's not starting.

On a serious note, Ben did win a world series.

I'm just mad about two contract that seems to tie our hands behind our backs.

I think DD is doing his job, doing what he was hired to do. If we win it all, 90% of credit should go to the players. DD will not collect a hit nor get an out. It is about the players.

$230M luxury tax payroll. Yeah, who wouldn't want to sign Arietta for 1 year $9M deal? But we've made our choices. Can't have it all.

Get as many players as healthy for season opener. No looking back now. We've left the comfort of mountain top. It's time to navigate the Black Run. It's now race to the bottom of the hill.

Am I incorrect in seeing a contradiction in logic between these 2 statements?

That is a good catch. Good one. That crafty old Ben must have been one helluva player for us don't you think? I just can't remember where he played nor how he hit. lol

DD has won 2 WS.

I thought it was one-1997 with Florida. He went to Detroit in 2002.

Or do you have me on a technicality somewhere?

I forgot that the cheating Tigers lost that WS.

And two cliffs.

(Oh NO, you DIH-ENT!)

Yup, the Marlins was a tank job due to DD. It had nothing to do with the Marlins ownership.

Also, ownership played no role in the Tigers failings (cough cough Prince Fielder contract).

Did I say it was all on DD?

Did ownership have anything to do with the 2 rings?

The Yankees remind me a lot of those Raider and Redskin teams ...that built a stacked team ..but something was missing ....The QB ..... I do think the WC comes out of The AL east but the Redsox win there third strait Division Title ...Pitching ,Hitting ,speed,Defense ,coaching , it's our time to break through .

They managed to trade Fielder. Now the Miguel Cabrera contract on the other hand...

1st statement was to defend him somewhat for getting blamed for coming in last place three times. I was merely being nice.

Second statement is to defend DD from unrealistic attacks. I mean GMs can only do so much. I think DD has done all he can. It's now up to his players.

i think DD is better.

So, one ring- two cliffs.

Such a cliff that the Tigers were in the ALCS 7 years after! OMG!

Marlins were a mandated ownership cliff so they could sell the team.

You’re smarter than this.

Dombrowski left the Marlins in decent shape, considering that they won the World Series the year after he left.

As for Detroit, they nearly made the playoffs in 2016, and they might have done so if the new GM had made a better signing than Jordan Zimmerman.

But I think there is some truth to Dombrowski not really being the drafter and talent evaluator in the same class as some of our recent GMs...

Hey!! That was our current ownership!
