Too many times people make the mistake of thinking you need a regular season ace to be a postseason ace. There are other pitchers who aren't paid like aces that consistently get it done in the playoffs. DD needs to find someone because no one on the roster is an accomplished postseason pitcher. You have to have proven playoff performers if you are a contending team with a high payroll.

While there's truth to this, guys who are lights out in the regular season are the ones making the REALLY big bucks, and to not have it translate over into the playoffs is maddening.

Pitching's the name of the game. Sale could have done better than that. Pomeranz needs to step it up tomorrow.

If Pom doesn’t get us a win tomorrow, it’s over.

People saying offense is in for this postseason, but only because the starting pitching's pitched like crap so far.

This! It's happened two years in a row for us web Price and Sale. It's absolutely unacceptable. Yes you need them to be good in regular season to help you get to the playoffs but it's all for not if they stink it up come playoff time. It's crap.

Price needs to start getting loose
Why didn't he get Price up early when it was obvious that Sale was flat and had given up two first inning home runs. When does Farrell plan on using him. It is a short series.

I would have brought him in when it was 4-2 and let him go 2 innings.

Maybe Farrell wants to bring him in with a lead or something? I have no idea what the two neurons were thinking. Farrell knows more than I do but why not use one of your weapons when the game is on the line?

Whatever.

If he isn't used to relieve Pomeranz when he's up to 100 pitches in the 5th, that's grounds for dismissal. Tito was bringing Miller in against our rallies in the 5th last series. Farrell should take notes.

Most of the thousands of college freshmen I've known gave up acting like ten-year-olds when they got there. ("Hey look at me! I learned a swear word!")

Sox need to stay in the game (keep it close) long enough to get to that Atros’ BP. That’s the key.

This is a lie. College freshmen are the worst humans on the planet.

Meanwhile, what will it take to get an ace who doesn't wilt in the playoffs?

A manager that can figure out how to rest his players down the stretch.

Astros threw 26-32 1st Pitch strikes, yesterday. Listening to advance Scout by Astros last week on radio, he said the Sox like to take a lot of 1st pitches. Teams are aware of this. Might have to be more aggressive in this series.

The 1st pitch looks like when its a 3-0 count and the batter, is just letting the Pitcher throw it in. Bogaerts is ridiculous on this. You keep digging yourself in a hole with Pitchers Counts, will be a problem.

The philosophy of drawing walks, and getting to teams BP, wont work in a short series. Other Manager, will be prepared for this. You have to swing the bats.

Pedroia will drop his bat while the pitcher is still winding up. It'd say he's probably the worst offender.

It's going to stay here forever, because this is the official Gamethread

Besides, blpw jobs should be discussed only on the Society pages.

This is one of my biggest beefs with the Sox (and Farrell). I get the philosophy of driving up pitch counts, but we have to be less predictable.

I wholeheartedly agree

You're in the thick of it now. All your classmates will start to chill out this spring. Next year, you'll look at incoming freshmen with disdain.

Thunder is a teenager trying to find his way in his first weeks of college.

I appreciate the thought that Thunder put into his well-written response to my post. Thunder may or may not express similar views in the future but I would hope that he would at least give pause before doing so. I know I'm not proud of some of the attitudes I held when I was Thunder's age (although I don't think I brought those sentiments into a public arena).

I considered our exchange a teachable moment.

Best regards.

If I can say so without being run out of town, I love the effort and passion Springer has played with tonight. I love him as a player as well, not just because he went to UConn, but because of what he stands for. The interview he gave FOX during the ASG while he was playing in the field really made me appreciate him. I read somewhere that it was a big moment for him as well, a kid overcoming a severe stutter to be able to talk confidently on national TV. Gives me hope that I can overcome it some point in the near future
My Great Nephew has committed to UConn to play baseball.

Yep, no harm done. Lesson learned. Wish you the best
