Good move for both sides ... now which big bang will be coming ... a trade or a promotion. (please say promotion)

@jonmorosi

For now, Pablo Sandoval's contract includes the second largest sum of dead money in @MLB history, after Josh Hamilton ($68.4 million).

Thanks Ben.

@ScottLauber

Sandoval is midway through five-year, $95 million contract. Including the $5 mil buyout on 2020 option, he's owed approximately $49 million.

@ScottLauber

Sandoval with #RedSox: 161 G, 575 AB, 53 R, 136 H, 27 2B, 1 3B, 14 HR, 59 RBI, 34 BB, 101 K, .237/.286/.360/.646, 71 OPS+, 21 E, -2 WAR.

Honestly, if we're not blaming Ben, we'd probably have to blame Tom Werner. I can't see even LL wanting that contract.

Still stunning to me how many people wanted Sandoval signed in the first place. Can not possibly believe Sox baseball ops wanted him.

Couple of ways to look at this

$1.8M/Run

$700K/Hit

$1.6M/RBI

$6.8M/HR

or my favorite

$600K/ Game Played

It was really the most confusing signing the Sox have made that I can remember.

I can see how the Crawford signing could have made sense or any of the dumpster signings people have ranted about, but the Pablo deal was just a head scratcher.

What's his daily nutrition cost?

Please, no more personal attacks about fatties that have no interest in being useful for the remainder of their 8 digit contracts. It's not polite. He's out the door. Let him commence his late era Marlon Brando phase immediately. My guess is that some restaurant on Federal Hill will be very busy today.

@PeteAbe

From July 31-Nov. 25, 2014, Red Sox traded for Allen Craig and signed Rusney Castillo and Pablo Sandoval. $195.4 million for minus-1.5 WAR

Pete was actually being a little kind not including Hanley in there.

Pull up to the table Mr. Henry and start eating salary. Bon appetit!

I'm surprised he hasn't yet run to WEEI and declared that he never wanted Pablo in the first place.

It would have brought the WAR to -0.6.

Unfortunately it's the fans who ultimately pay for it. Henry's return on investment just keeps growing.
