I'm not calling out specific people, but I see a lot of people hate on and then all of a sudden love certain players. So I thought this type of thread would support some ********. Which players are you homers for, and which ones do you hate? Ill start

I support:

Mookie Betts

Andrew Benintendi

Big Dick Rick

Craig Kimbrel

Brock Holt

Joe Kelly

I'm indifferent of:

Pedroia

Leon

Vazquez

Moreland

I hate

David Price

Pablo Sandoval

Hanley Ramirez

Fernando Abad

Matt Barnes

E-Rod

Hembree

Marrero

Rutledge

JBJ (Well Hate is a strong word, but I still think we should've sold high).

So fellow Sox fans, lets get out of way and say who we love/ hate!!!

I feel like that's an excessive amount of hate. How do people actually HATE JBJ? I understand being frustrated with his streaky hitting and slumps, but the dude plays his ass off, hasn't even gotten paid yet and is a good player, I just don't get how you hate a guy like that.

I am a full on supporter of Mookie, JBJ, Beni, Pedroia and Xander. I love what all of them are doing this season, have done so far in their careers and believe they will do in the future. Even with Pedroia's dumb comments after the Machado ********. I also really like like E-Rod, Sale, Kimbrel, Robby Scott, David Price (Yes, I still support him), Chris Young, and Marco Hernandez.

Only guys I hate on the team are Pablo (self explanatory), Hanley (I actually do like him, but he's playing like such an idiot), Pomeranz (His games last 5 hours every time) and Kyle Kendrick (he just sucks, I hope he never makes another start in Boston). And by Hate, I just wish they weren't on the team, I don't actually hate them as people lol.

I am in full support of all of our players.

That does not mean that I won't be critical of them from time to time or that I won't get frustrated with them, but I support them all.

Personally, I think we have a really good team.

Thornburgh hasn't played for us yet, so do you still support him?

I support anyone in a Red Sox uniform and hope for them to succeed. However, in the spirit of the thread, I think I can sort people into a few tiers...

-A few faves: Betts, Bogaerts, JBJ, Benintendi, Pedroia, Sale. (I fully admit I have a bias towards homegrown players, and well, how can you not love Chris Sale?)

-The next tier: Kimbrel, Price, Porcello, Ramirez, Rodriguez, Moreland, Vazquez.

-Meh: Leon, Pomeranz, Young, Wright, Castillo, most of the current bullpen guys. (You can add Farrell and Dombrowski here, actually :P)

-I don't "hate" anyone, but...could do without: Sandoval, Craig.

The OP seems to suggest you have to either "support" or "hate" a particular player at all times to be consistent, but my list is continually subject to change based on performance, health, and other factors.

I usually reserve "hate" until I've actually met someone personally. And even then I hesitate to use that word. To me that word goes more toward absolute and intentional actions than to things like job performance. Intent cuts a lot of ice with me.

I strongly dislike the situation we're in with Sandoval, Thornburg, Pomerantz (although I do come close to hating the Padres in that I question their intent in dealing Pom without fully revealing what they knew about him), Craig, and Castillo. Did I leave anyone out? However, I don't dislike them personally because I believe that as professionals they (should) have a lot of pride and must be as frustrated with their performance as we are. I refuse to believe that any of those players came to Boston with the intent to collect their salary and not contribute.

I also strongly dislike the GM's and others (hear that, Larry?) who put the team in this position, but my opinion of anyone is based on the aggregate of their actions. If I'm going to "hate" DD because he picked up Thornburg and Smith, do I also have to hate him in spite of the fact that he picked up Chris Sale?

If I'm going to "hate" David Price because he failed miserably in the playoffs do I also have to hate the David Price who won 17 games last year? {And before certain posters jump all over that, yeah, I know that wins aren't the best indicator of how a player has pitched, but wins are the determining factor in who makes the playoffs.}

I have certain players whom I "like" - but not love - without meeting them and it's usually based on their defense. Obviously Dwight Evans is one and Mike Lowell is another, due to not only their on-field accomplishments but also because they "played the game the right way". Of the current team I also strongly like Vazquez and JBJ, but that's no secret to those who've followed my posts. Mookie is also quite high on my "like" scale. Pedey used to be but that fracas about "It's not me, it's them" lowered his position considerably.

Meh.. this has gone on too long. Enjoy the day... and Happy Father's Day tomorrow to everyone except Kimmie. :D

Edit: I think that in spite of the fact that I've never met the man I hate John Sterling.

The only Sox players I am not big fans of are Sandoval and Pomeranz. And I probably wouldn't mind either if they had come for lesser asking prices...

Although i hated the Pom trade, I actually liked Pom, when we got him.

I don't like him as much now, but it's far far from hate.

I have lowered my expectations for Pom. Now I see him as an acceptable #5.

Also, in post game interviews he seems to own his performance with non of the Buch-ish excuses for sucking. He also seems like a nice guy.

I was against the Espi for Pom trade when I thought Pom might be a capable to decent 3 starter or good 4 starter.

Yes, an acceptable 5 starter is lowering my expectations, too.

I have disdain (not hate) for our FO. I view FO types as overpaid knuckleheads in suits -- eminently fungible.

I have little regard for the IQ of our manager and his coaching staff.

Other than that, I support all of our players, even the bums like Pablo

I feel sort of the same except I have a feeling that the coaches really do work at helping players. Even good employees need some supervision sometimes.

I think that someone has to own the team and authorize spending money. But they should stay out of BB opps.

There should be someone running the business end of the team operation.

There should be baseball opps guys ( people ) that scout, recruit, draft, coach, teach, manage the roster.

I know managers take a lot of heat but someone has to steer the ship.

I am partial to home grown players as well, but I become quickly attached to pretty much any player who joins our team.

Good point about how the list continually changes, based mostly on performance I think. One day, everyone wants a player DFA'd, the next day, we're voting for him for MVP.

Nobody comes close to "hate" in my book.

I do hate that we signed Pablo, but I don't even come close to hating him.

I think that's a good distinction to make. I do not like Pablo's contract, as well as the cost of acquiring some of our other players, but that has no bearing on my support of the player. I would not have signed Pablo or Price at the cost of their contracts, but I was excited to have both of them on the team.

Case in point, "JBJ".

Yes, someone has to do these jobs, but I don't have a very high regard for the difficulty of the job or the capability of those who do it. It is like the guy at the fast food window, until they perfect robots, I need him there, but he is completely fungible. And if the kid at the window is a

Mensa member, the job doesn't require it.

So have you felt this way about every Sox manager and front office personnel since you started watching the Sox? Do you feel this way about front office types and managers on other teams?

I'll just pick out a few I like who seem to sometimes get treated dismissively.

Sandy Leon. He is a fine defensive catcher who comes up with his share of hits and hot streaks. I love having him and Vaz share catching duties because they are both pretty solid defensive catchers and I never feel like the team is worse off no matter who is out there.

Matt Barnes. He just grinds it out and does a decent job. Not spectacular but mostly gets the job done.

Jackie Bradley, Jr. He makes great fielding look so effortless and his batting hot streaks and power are impressive.

Brock Holt. I know he's been hurt but I can't hold that against. I love his versatility and the way he has the ability to spark the team at times.

With few exceptions, yes and yes.

Mind if I ask for some specifics on why you think all MLB managers have a low IQ?

Let's suffice it to say that it is the result of my observations over half a century of watching games and following baseball. It is nothing more that my opinion.

I would hazard a guess that Weaver, Larussa, Showalter and Maddon all have or had higher than average IQ's.

I think baseball is a game that can make anyone like look a dummy.
