I guess it shouldn’t be surprising to see forum members taking shots at JBj after going 2-2 / 2R / BB + a usual highlight reel defensive play.

I think those of us who believe that we've seen the REAL JBJ have to get used to it. The next time he goes 0-3 -and it will happen - we'll be hearing the cries of "Trade him NOW while his value is high!!"

Fortunately Dave is running the team and not the naysayers on TalkSox.

As O'B alluded to last night, how tough is the MVP race in the AL now when JBJ could (I said COULD) end up with an OPS >.900 and not get a sniff at that award?

984 OPS since June 24th.

I listened to the game on the radio so not sure what OB said...but surely he must have been talking about Xander or Beni...

It was just a general comment about how good the outfielders - and the CF'ers in particular - are in the AL now. My thoughts immediately went to JBJ, how good he [is/could be if his offense were better] and how difficult it would be for him - or any OF in the AL - to win that award this year. There's a bunch of good OF'ers out there!

What gets me most is that many of the JBJ detractors are the ones who also often bash players over their recent numbers, yet with JBJ, they look at his seasonal numbers and neglect the fact that he;s been hitting well for quite a while recently.

You are right he is up to .208.

Look I'm going to fess up. Last night, it was bases loaded, 2 outs, and JBJ up. I turned the radio off, figuring rally over. I was wrong!!!

??? What did I miss? Who's taking shots at him?

I think that it is a clear majority SS of people here are pulling for JBJ big time. We all get how valuable a defensive player he is. That is obvious to anybody who knows anything. Saying that you want him to hit better is not suggesting that you want him gone. It is good to start to see him hit. He needs to not just for himself but for his team as well.

Check out the title of this thread. There are several posters here who apparently believe that offense is ~70% of the game and defense is the other ~30%. That's why this thread even exists.

A lot of fans have a bad habit of not giving a player their due when they play well. Happens with fans from all teams, not just the Red Sox so it's not a shot at our fan base. When JBJ is struggling its, "He sucks lets trade him now." When he plays good I see a lot of "How long will this last before he sucks again." It's the exact same thing with Price although a tad more warranted as he has one of the biggest contracts in professional sports.

Oh don't worry. When JBJ is playing well, we all hear about it...

Yup that's true, some fans go too much the other way. I also notice that when JBJ has one good game some people make out like he should be MVP. But I can't talk as I am a huge Price fan and he could have 4 horrible games in a row and then 1 decent game like last night and I'm all excited for him lol. I try not to say much with price now lmao.

If you can't be excited about a guy playing well on your team, you're probably a s***** fan. There's nothing wrong with calling out someone who is underperforming though.

I guess I just don't see it the same way regardless of the thread's name. Guess I 'll just speak for me. If he continues to hit, I would bet on him staying but if he doesn't they likely will listen to offers for him if there are any. I don't think the trade talk lights up to brightly for an outfielder who can't hit .200 regardless of how good he is defensively. I'm pretty sure that what I just said could get twisted around to say that I want him gone. That seems to be how it works here. That would be a joke. I don't care how much people rattle on about his talents, I'm just as big a fan of his as anybody else. I've been watching him just like you for a long time. I would love nothing more than to see that outfield together forever but it is a business. I hope he continues to improve at the plate. He is heading in the right direction.

That is the absolute truth. When these guys are stinking it up, they expect the criticism. That is part of being a passionate fan. The truth of the matter is that if they are any good they are harder on themselves than we can ever be. Saying you want the guy to get better doesn't mean you wanted him traded. There are certainly some f***ing dopes who post here but everybody should relax - we all love JBJ.

Yup. Just put the dopes on ignore when you can't deal with them anymore.

That's exactly how I feel.

In fact, the worse a player is doing, the more I wan't them to succeed. JBJ's cool too cause he has had rough patches, and doesn't seem to be a jackass about it. I like his style. Just skeptical about the bat.

The only player I've ever disliked almost to the point of hoping he'd fail was Lackey, but even then when he was suited up I had to home he'd do well.

That's a good way of looking at things.

I respectfully submit that I have never understood the anti-Lackey sentiment.

He was signed to what was then a decent or reasonable contract and immediately sucked because of a junk elbow.

Then when he returns post - surgery, he is productive.

Some rumor gets circulated that he will retire or sit out rather than play the last year on the vet min contract. Boom. He is a class A jerk that can't pitch.

He was a workhorse #1 in LA ( not an Ace ).

He was pretty much that after the surgery and his went out and got lit-up every start for a season because his arm was attached by a thread.

I just don't get the animosity directed towards him.

Divorcing a sick wife is his business. Chicken and Beer was stupid but that culture was endemic in the clubhouse from what I have read.

He does look like a f***ing horse. I will give you that.

It was him yelling and giving bad looks to his fellow teammates when they did something wrong that I just couldn't stand. And that's the only thing that made me despise him. I can't stomach that.

Yeah I can understand that, I guess.

I never realized it was such a problem.

Because it wasn't his team loved him .I always thought Lack was a great teammate and never heard anything different .Now if we want to talk bad teammate let's start the line at Nomar turn left at Manny and abrupt stop the plate crowder who looked like he wanted to kill umpires teammates hell fans ...I can't stand the player to be nameless but Red Sox fans know the player and he was a true *******....nahh dude just looked like one "Carl Everette and Lackey just look like that naturally....I don't know about the personal life of John because frankly I was too happy about the World Series he was pivotal at helping us win .Dave Price gets a similar wrap but if the man delivers a World Series allllllls forgiven .

1 million percent why I hated him.

It's like a stock you get hosed on and need to unload. It goes up and you can't sell it because you're still underwater and you think it might go back up even more. You know like a dead cat bounce. When this guy gets on a streak, and his value goes up, you need to unload instead of falling in love with him again. He's too streaky. Way too streaky. Edited by DontCallMeUncleRico

And yet, according to Tomase, Lackey was one of the most popular guys on the team and a wonderful human being...

Yea. I know, it was never said the players disliked him, and it shocked me.

And it doesn't change a thing in my mind. Any pitcher who is already getting shelled who shows up another player who committed an error is a dick.
