You cant release Craig? Make room at 3rd for Devers, and make Dominquez a DH?

Craig is not on the 40 man roster, and he can just ride the bench or play LF.

Plus, Dominguez is not an essential player in our system, assuming Devers is close enough to ML ready to play. Dominguez is also not on the 40 man roster.

Here's the problem with me about Craig and Castillo. Money I could care less. These clowns have tons. They are blocking the other Prospects, even the DH role at Triple AAA is important.

If not in their future because of contract, they should be released. Mistake made move on, no reason to hold up other kids.

2 mistakes don't make a right.

Players jump from AA to the majors all the time. I seriously doubt Castillo is blocking anyone, since we have no ML ready or near ML ready OF prospects in our system.

Craig and Dominguez are not the reason Devers is still in AA.

I'm not sure about roster limits at the AAA level, but at this time, I do not think C & C are "blocking" anyone's progress. Maybe someday they might.

Maybe DD still thinks there's a slight chance one of these guys will get their act together and force their way onto the team again. Very very doubtful, but at least these guys provide some entertainment to the Pawtucket fans.

On another note: according to soxprospects.com our highest ranking prospect in AAA is #15 Jalen Beeks. (17 Ben Taylor, 18 Tavarez, 19 Callahan).

How about AA? 1 Devers, 6 Lakins, 7 Chavis -just promoted, 10 Longhi.

That's just 8 of our top 20 prospects at the upper levels on the farm. If anything, we lack top talent at the upper levels, so I can't see veteran blockage as being an issue.

Development at Triple AAA is the most important part of the process, because of the competition you face. Very few Major Leaguers in Double AA.

20 year old kid going from Double AA to the Majors, is tough.

Devers at Portland he is flip-flopping with Chavis at 3rd base and DH. That's stupid. Dominquez stinks, bring up Devers. Sure some growing pains, but, at least he'll be growing.

Well, so far, Devers has started 53 of his 65 games at Portland at 3B. That's not flip-flopping. It's been nearly FT. I doubt Chavis will enough play 3B to worsen the progress of Devers. If that situation arises, I think we'll see Devers in AAA. They may already be planning a Devers promotion very soon.

Once Devers arrives in AAA, he will likely play 3B 5 out of 6 games as he did in AA. That allows Dominguez to stay sharp at 3B and DH the rest of the games as a non 40-man roster depth player with some ML experience. Craig can play 1B as long as Travis stays in Boston. Craig has also played some LF in AAA.

I don't see a squeeze at all.

Someone needs to go to make room for Devers. Noe Ramirez?

He certainly would be near the top of my list as possible 40 man roster casualties when we add Devers or others to the 40 man roster.

Here's my list of most expendable 40 man roster players (some be able to be traded for a non-40 man roster prospect):

N Ramirez

Velazquez (depending on ERod & Johnson's health readiness levels)

Sandoval

L Ysla

K Martin

B Boyer

Other options:

S Selsky or B Brentz could be traded despite our lack of OF depth.

RRoss could be added to the 60 day DL

They way I look at it then if Castillo isn't blocking kids from CF, then he should be called up to Boston if you need him. This ******** on Luxury Tax, to Billionaires is dumb. He contributes 1 or 2 wins, in case of injury, Sox make the Play-offs with his help, pays for itself. Edited by OH FOY!

Nobody hates paying taxes more than rich people.

With Travis on the ML roster, I don't see Devers being squeezed out of playing 3B by Dominguez or Craig.

Dominguez has started 47 games at 3B, 5 at 1B and 6 at DH. He can play 1B/DH.

Craig has started 10 of 44 games at 1B and 4 in the OF. The rest has been at DH. He can continue playing 1B, DH or OF.

When Rutledge returns, Marrero or Lin can play SS at AAA, but I could see an argument being made that they should play 3B at AAA to sharpen their skills at the position they are most likely to be needed. That may create a squeeze at 3B, but I suppose we could send Lin or Marrero to AA just to play 3B (highly doubtful IMO).

So far, we haven't needed an back-up OF'er despite Holt's long DL stint. Young has stayed healthy.

I think Castillo is possible depth in the OF, but the luxury tax rules now goes beyond just money. If we continue to stay over, the rate goes way up, and if we go way over, which we might someday with Castillo on board, we could lose draft picks or signing slot money.

That's right. I forgot.

Thanks.

If an OF'er gets hurt, we may trade or DFA Selsky or another on the list and add Brentz then promote him to the 25.

The mystery injury that David Price acquired during his start against the Angels on Saturday was revealed to be a cracked fingernail on the middle finger of his right hand.

Lin made couple of nice plays at 3B.....I can't believe we were duped into thinking Pablo can come back.....lol

I'd like to see him start in front of Marrero......how can he be any worse?

Betts, Pewee, Xander combined 0-12.....PATHETIC

Why does Betts gets a pass on being criticized? He hasn't done jack last two months.

I've been expecting Betts to heat up at any moment. It hasn't happened.

I'm okay with anyone getting critical about just about anyone on our offense, except maybe Bogey, Moreland and our catchers.

To me, Betts tends to hit a lot of ball to center where his general power doesn't allow him to hit many out. I expect he will heat up and in particular if he goes to other fields.

This team does not excite me at all. Outside of Sale and Kimbrel, they really don't get my blood up one little bit. For whatever reason, they are just getting harder and harder for me to watch. I am losing interest and that really is unusual for me. So be it. i like vanilla ice cream so probably I should like these guys too right. They are plain very plain vanilla in my book. The only good thing about them losing is that I don't have to watch that foolish outfield dance.

There's no defense for this offense. What a weekend of futility.

Yup. I hate watching us piss away winnable games (at home against the Trout-less Angels, no less) we're going to need down the road.

On the bright side, Fister looked good...it'd be nice to have a #5 we can rely on for 6 innings, 3 runs, and no drama.

He had an .802 OPS in April, .867 in May, and .803 in June (not updated for today, I presume). We've yet to see him at his best, but he's hardly having a bad year.

What the heavens f*** do have against the OF dance? Big burly NFL players do a stupid dance after EVERY SINGLE f***ING down, all goddamn winter, with their fat ass cracks hanging out, and nobody says s***.

Anywho, the Sox are right in line with their 1st half record from last season, it's almost identical at this point with 14 games until the AS break. On a macro level... Sox are losing in different ways than last season but they don't seem to be losing more.

I'm hoping Smith comes back and is lights out relief for us, because the only way I see us getting a big bat is to trade a reliever (or two).

Farrell got his Irish up with that umpire -- nose to nose. he needs to turn the hat around so he can get closer. The spit was flying. I miss a good argument with an ump.

And this is why we can't have robot umps.

Unfortunately, for a pitcher, a split fingernail can be debilitating. Let's hope it doesn't linger.
