Where was Beni? In comparison to where JBJ would have been playing, I mean.

He was shifted towards LF. Too far of a run for JBJ. I've seen JBJ let balls drop in similar locations before too.

Workman has started exactly 1 game since 2014, a 2 inning stint in the Gulf Coast League last year (which I suspect was more of a rehab start).

He had only appeared in 4 games with Pawtucket this year, going 8 total innings. There is no way he is stretched out enough to start in Boston right now.

3 innings is longer than I trust Kendrick.

Yep I'm guilty.....so much for spring training success.

If they'd have been playing in the same place JBJ would have caught that ball! :D

In addition to that, he also gets to balls that other CF's don't get to. Benintendi had a ball drop near the triangle a few days ago in a spot where JBJ caught one just a few days prior. Sure, the case can be made that we don't know where the fielders were positioned, but still... that means that Beni may have been positioned CLOSER to where the ball hit than JBJ was. We don't know.

I don't know how many runs saved plays like that amount to over a season but it's probably enough to more than make up for JBJ's offensive streakiness.

S5, this is why we have UZR and DRS. These stats measure these exact things that you're talking about in terms of Bradley's defense. Come over to the dark side, my friend.

@IanCundall

After seeing him last night I would not be surprised if RHP Hector Velazquez gets a look should the #RedSox 5th starter slot remain an issue

Obviously, Kendrick was only brought up because of his contract.

For the record: I have been a big supporter of Pomeranz and still think that he has value for us. A lot more than Espinoza. What I would add though is that I don't think that he will ever be what I was hoping that he would be. I do not think that he is "gritty" enough,"tough" enough, or actually "mean" enough to be a great pitcher. Athletes know what those words actually mean. I liked how Kevin McHale described Danny Ainge's approach to things.

Here's what bothers me about Pomeranz. Forget the stats. What I saw last night and see too often is that he is a MLB starter--not a reliever--with basically two pitches, a knuckle curve and a 90 mph fast ball. And he does not have the exquisite control needed to get away with just two pitches. Plus a 90 mph fastball is something batters with any sense will sit on--that is, wait for one that is somewhere near the middle of the strike zone.

No one here would no about the crow for sure. you folks better stick to bets that require no harvesting - hats work.

Pomeranian is letting us down.

He is not letting me down as I had low expectations of him.

He blows. I guess he may be batter than Felix Doubrant as Sox # 5 but not by much.

Things could be worse. No. 5 starter Yovani Gallardo is the only preseason projected Seattle starter who is not currently on a disabled list that includes James Paxton, Felix Hernandez, Hisashi Iwakuma and Drew Smyly. The Mariners are mired 1.5 games behind the Red Sox.

Doubront was pretty good in 2013.

Where is Johnson? I thought he was going to be brought up next.

With the day off, we don't need a 5th starter for a while, so they brought up Ross for pen help.

Johsnon, Velazquez and Owens all have shown reason for consideration as our next 5th starter.

So far, we've gone through three 5th starters:

Steven Wright (Out for the season.)

Kyle Kendrick (Just sent down.)

Brian Johnson (Had one start earlier.)

If Price had been healthy, one could have called Pomeranz our fourth 5th starter.

Price is doing a rehab start in the minors so he should be back soon. Are we the only team where the salary in the minors and rehab is greater that that on our major league team. Price, Sandoval, Craig, Castillo, Thornburg, Smith all get the bucks. I wonder if Price will ever return to decent form let alone the expectations for an Ace. Giving a pitcher with a lot of mileage a 7 year contract is just nuts.

It's not greater than the ML team, unless maybe HRam goes on the DL too.

$22M HRam

$21M Porcello

$16M Pedey

$13M Kimbrel

$12M Sale

$6.5M Young

$5.5M Moreland

$4.5M Bogey

$4.5M Pom

$3.6M JBJ

$2.8M Kelly

$2M Abad

Plus scraps for others

E-Rod is holding up his end of the deal so far, maybe even a little better than that.

he is pitching like a possible number 2 which is about where the top end for him was projected - not bad

Get Price back and this rotation is sick.........

My thoughts exactly. 5th starter, shmh. I'd be quite happy with our 1 through 4 If Price is indeed healthy the rest of the way.

Could be for sure. Get Smith and Thornburg back and the bullpen looks good too. They still will have to hit some as well. i'm just not as convinced as some that this offense will be fine with time. I'm all out of Moreland love and I am not sure what Hanley's gig is. What I see right now are a lot of potentially good hitters with really not a lot of pop. I like some real game changing pop in the lineup.

Seriously.

If Price, Smith and Thornburg were all healthy, we would have seen the best pitching staff we have seen from the Sox in years....

I just dig good pitching. It gets me off........

I hope we see this fully whole bad ass pitching staff all healthy for a good stretch of this year......... it would be something...
