Maybe we can sign Machado after next season (lol).

Dude is a douche but man I'd kill to have him as our 3B. His defense/offense combo is amazing to watch.

I used to enjoy watching him play when he wasn't playing agains us. After this season, I can't stand the guy. I would rather stink at 3B than have him on the Red Sox.

Id learn to forgive and forget if his diving stops and balls being launched over the monster helped the team instead of killed us. I hated Lackey before he came to Boston.

If we signed him, I'm sure I would find a way to root for him. But I honestly hope we never do.

Maybe we could trade Pablo for that kid Travis Shaw. 9 doubles, 1 triple 7 homeruns and 24 runs batted in. He's raking! How do you get a player like that?:P

You can get him for an injured relief pitcher.

You coach him properly and then have patience.

2012 - 2014 was the WMB experiment. I'm not sure many people were complaining about 3b in 2012.

In 2015 they signed Pablo. Pablo failed.

Shaw played over 100 games in 2016 and was a 2 WAR player.

If it wasn't for the Pablo contract, I believe they would have found a professional 3b to play until Devers is ready. Tough to sign a FA 3b when you already have Sandoval on the roster.

I was complaining about Middlebrooks in 2012. Sandoval was a bad fit for Boston. I had hopes for Sandoval for this season but now I give up. Time to move on and get a real 3B.

Right now Travis Shaw has made 4 errors in 28 games, or one error every 7 games. Do we have an 3B who can say that? And he's carrying an OPS of ~.850.

Shaw's war came in the first half of the year, he was absolutely terrible the second half. Holt actually unseated him in September for a period of time.

Shaw might be doing fine now, but he is so streaky you can't count on him. I was not unhappy to see him go.

Neither was I until we were about 2 weeks into the season.

I think some people are forgetting just how bad Shaw was after the first 2 months of the season. From June 1 through the end of the season, his batting line is .207/.270/.351/.631. An OBP of .270!!!

It was a struggle to watch him the second half of the year.

I'm not an Insider (but i'm ok with that). I don't think an early promotion is the worst thing. It may even get him a look at what he needs to work on even if he does fail this time around. If he fails, we'll still see him in September. If he fails and it ruins his career somehow (and i don't know why it would), we have other 3B prospects that were doing well last time I checked (not to bring up to the Majors, but they'd still be prospects in our system). The only thing that happens if Devers fails is that there's a slight chance his value may decline some. Although, I'm not sure we should care about his trade value when we're at a time where we shouldn't be looking to trade any more prospects anyhow.
