Pablo has looked good so far. Hopefully he gets off to a good start to open the season.

He does seem to be doing well. That is good.

I was concerned by a heavy slide into home the other day. It was a good slide but boy did he hit the ground hard and then extend his left arm ( the damaged one ) to sweep the plate.

Sandoval is actually playing quite well this spring, or at least better than I expected. He's making the routine plays at 3b and is making solid contact with his bat. Nobody is ready to name the game after him and if he keeps performing at this level hell be overpaid but at least he's looking servicable as a 3Bman. That makes him a,pleasant surprise for me.

Me too. The signing was a mistake. If he can take his old job back its his. Let's see if he can prove a lot of people wrong.

Myself included.

Lets hope he can stay away from the pasta and return to his salad days.

Why do we want to keep picking up everyone else's trash? We got enough fat f***s already on the team.

Lawrie, who is far from fat, would join exactly 0 players released by other teams on the Red Sox roster.

He would probably make excellent Sandoval insurance/platoon partner and could replace Josh Rutledge on the roster, except for the reputation Brett Lawrie carries for being a completely insufferable human being...

The signing was a mistake. Pablo was likely to be overpaid even if he played well over the entire contract. That said, he had always been a serviceable, or in some years, even a quite good 3rd baseman until he came to Boston. His first year here was a fluke, in the worst way imaginable. It really shouldn't be that big a surprise if he returns to being a serviceable 3rd baseman.

I don't know how much truth there is behind his reputation, but I would not want him on the team because of that. Outside of the reputation, I'd take a flyer on him.

It's not like I know him personally, but for some reason the stories that follow Lawrie from team to team always describe his massive arrogance and poor attitude. He hasn't helped himself with his occasional on field tantrum, including an infamous helmet-throwing incident a couple years ago.

I always suspected he was the teammate who complained about Adam LaRoche's son last spring training. I'll never be able to prove it, however. (And certainly, I could be flat out wrong.)

Of course all of this could just be a poor portrayal in the media. He might be the nicest guy who, when not slamming his batting helmet to the ground, spends his off hours making Linus blankets for orphans.

But probably not...

When the stories follow a player from team to team, there is probably more to it than just poor portrayal in the media.

Much like AJ Pierzynski, he is a player that I've not been able to like.

I cut Pierzynski some slack.

When he was with the White Sox, he used to do alot of radio out here in Chicago. I found him to be very informative and pleasant on the radio. Even the talk show hosts were surprised, given his reputation that preceded him out here. His insights into clubhouse behavior were as candid as anyone I ever heard.

But then he left and his name became mud again...

He did some playoff commentary for Fox, I believe, a few years ago. I thought that he was decent at it. The Boston media never liked him.

I never understood the whole A.J. hate stuff. I am not sure what the issue is that rubs people the wrong way. He has been strapping on the gear and doing a solid job as a catcher for a looong time.

I'm sure that he does a very good job as commentator. It's similar to ARod. ARod supposedly is very good and very informative in that role. I don't know though, because I couldn't listen to him. He's another one that I can't bring myself to like.

PREACH ms Kimmi...PREACH.

Panda will join Xander and HanRam on the All Star team in 2017. bookit.

I think its Panda's job to lose. As long as he is healthy he starts for Sox at the corner on opening day.

Agreed. IMO, Panda has already sewn up the job.

I just hope he stays committed to this better physical condition that he is in and doesn't become complacent again.

I don't think it was ever a question of whether or not it was Panda's job to lose. The question was whether or not he'd lose it. .

I've only watched a few spring training games but have been lucky and seen most of the key guys--especially Sandoval. He still looks heavy to me but is clearly lighter. More than that, yesterday (or Saturday) I saw him start a DP from well behind the bag at 3B with a perfect throw to Pedroia. Plus he is hitting and seems reasonably mobile. If he can keep his weight down and keep playing this way, I think he is the answer at 3B.

Pablo finally took a walk yesterday, bringing his K/W ratio to 11/1. I am very pleased with what I've seen from Pablo this season, but as our good friend JoeyB points out, his K/W is something to keep an eye on.

There was also a piece by Alex Speier a little while ago about K/BB being the one truly important stat in ST games.

For a hitter, K/BB gives some indication of plate discipline. From a pitcher, it gives some indication of control. ..

Wonder if he ever has played third before. Love that they build this flexibility.

Yes and no from me.

At some point, isn't it better to look at options with some 3b experience?

@EvanDrellich Steve Selsky is going to see some time at third base. Sox high on him, versatility.

He also had an inning or two at 1B yesterday
