There's one out, first batter grounded out to second.

What I meant was hoping it would be a 1-2-3 inning.

What an amazing freaking game. The Sox were dead, dead, dead. But, as it turns out, they were only mostly dead. Just an incredible 9th inning comeback.

I not only had no premonition, I was sure this game was over going into the 9th. Yes, I had a little hope Betts might get a hit, but I sure as hell didn't think Pedroia we hit one over the center field fence.

That was one crazy ass game.

I get a kick out of how loud the crowd was after Pedroia went yard. Lol.

Buch looked pretty good.

May I add that I'm pretty sure both dingers were on sliders, which kind of undercuts my thesis that these guys can't hit breaking balls.

Benintendi and Moncada's performances today should solidify their value and make them off limits. i have ZERO doubt that both of these players will end up being more valuable than Sale or anyone we could acquire. Stick with what we have. Don't overpay.

I love how you guys s*** on Pedroia!!!! Ha ha ha......idiots
I think people should reconsider their hope that Pedroia gets traded. He is still getting it done, and he is still the catalyst of the Red Sox.

Why the f*** would you let Hanigan hit there? He f***ing blows.
I asked it yesterday, and I still don't have a good explanation as to why we still have Hanigan. He looks like a shot player.

What a WONDERFUL WIN!!!!!

This could be one of those wins that can spur a team to go on a run, and change the course of the season.

I have no idea why we kept him, I was arguing we should've DFA him and rolled with Vazquez and Leon.. Haven't seen any reason to change that opinion.

He looks sick or injured. He is not the same player that he was last year.

Called it a game after 7.5 innings and went to sleep since it was 12.30am here in Holland. Didn't feel to watch the 9th to see them loose, nice surprise when checking the scores this morning:D

Still, upstaged by Lester's walk-off in the 12th. (Obviously, should NEVER have let him go.)

We kept him for several reasons:

1. Depth

2. Veteran leadership. Yes, that intangible is important.

3. Who really knew or still knows how long Leon can keep up this hitting?

4. If Vazquez is not going to be the starting catcher, he is better off being in Pawtucket where he can play everyday.

Something is wrong with the guy. He should probably still be on the DL.

I need some clarification...

Veteran Leadership is an intangible that is important.

Is Clutch also an intangible that is important?

Which intangibles are ok and which aren't?

Give me some proof that veteran leadership does not positively impact a team, and I will rethink my opinion on it.

I have seen enough evidence for me to believe that 'clutch' does not exist. Again, give me some evidence that it does, and I will rethink my position on it.

And by evidence, I don't mean anecdotal evidence.

I didn't say Veteran Leadership wasn't important even though there is no evidence it really matters. My question is why draw the line at Clutch?

Did the Sox win in 2013 because they had veteran guys on the team while the Cardinals had a younger squad? Or did the Sox win because of Papi's heroics and Koji's filthiness in late and close situations?

From the article:

"There's probably someone who read that nothing was significant and thought "Ha! Another myth bites the dust!" Not so fast. This is a mistake that I see a lot in sabermetrics and have probably made myself.

There probably are cases in which an older player takes a younger player under his wing. It's hard to believe that he would do so for everyone on the team (or that everyone would need it). Also, it's probably not the case that all older players are good at that sort of thing. But it's harder to believe that it never happens, that there aren't certain guys who are good at it, and that somewhere along the line, someone benefited from that sort of mentorship. Maybe we don't know fully how to identify the good ones, but it's a bigger stretch of the imagination to deny that this effect is out there."
