Except for Rodriguez is wildly inconsistent and mediocre at best, at least to this point.

Yes, this is my first post, and yes, I am one of those traditional cynical pre-2004 Red Sox fans.

But seriously, hasn't E-Rod had the equivalent of a season or a season and a half in the majors now? What's he done, really? Feel he's overrated in these parts.

He's only 24. He's been hurt too much, which should count against him. I accept that.

He's had 51 starts up to his current age of just 24. That's not bad.

17-15 4.10 is pretty decent. He was off to a good start this year as his WHIP was about 0.15 better than 2015-2016 combined. His ERA was more than a half run better than 15-26. ERA+ 108 career.

Pomeranz has 54 starts since 2014 (28 with the Sox). He's 10-9 4.17 with the Sox and has been out hurt as well. His WHIP is over 1.00 more than ERod's and is 2.00 more than his this year alone. Career OPS+ 112, but with Boston 109- about the same as ERod.

I'm glad we have Pom. My argument against the trade was never about me having any issues with Pom, other than he was projected to be a 3/4 starter. I still hate the trade, but Pom gives us a better chance at winning this year and next.

Since May 25, Drew Pomeranz has a 2.70 ERA in 40 innings. Chris Sale has a 3.54 ERA in 40.2 innings.

Say hello to our new ace.

And when is Espinoza first start? Let me know.

Yeah, too bad we didn't trade Betts, Bogey and Bradley long before their first start.

Maybe we could have gotten 3 more Pom Poms.

Trade them all for more Chris Sales.

I am not happy that we gave up Espinoza. IMO, we did not get back what he was worth. That said, I supported the trade because I thought it was necessary. If Pom can continue to pitch like he has been recently, then this trade becomes a big win, regardless of how Espinoza eventually pitches.

He's been very good. No doubt about that.

He could be good one day, but that is a long time away and far from certain. Right now the only thing keeping them afloat is the pitching. Pom is finally delivering and the Sox couldn't more glad at the appropriate time.

Espinoza's injury more serious than 1st thought. He just started catching again, might pitch in late July, unless elbow gets better, might be shelved for the season. Also possibility for TJ.

After reading further, he had 2 MRI's, both said no damage to UCL, Preller said, they will preach patience, might shelve him for entire season, because of age. Only 166 professional innings and already has elbow tightness. Not good. Elbows problems seem to stay with you. Edited by OH FOY!

As long as I get to cook it or can supervise the cooking of it.

I am thinking of a nice cranberry dressing for it.

And some Merlot.

Boy oh boy - I couldn't resist this! lol

This guy keeps throwing like this, I think even the early Pom supporters (supporter?) will share in this meal. Good to see. A big young lefty getting better with every game. I liked seeing a little attitude from him when he was getting squeezed as well.

I've never been a fan of this trade, as most probably know by now, but if Pomeranz keeps pitching like this, I'm certainly going to have to reconsider. His numbers since the 5/20 dugout argument with Farrell (9 GS): 2.60 ERA, 3.05 FIP, 3.49 xFIP, 9.17 K/9, 2.77 BB/9. (That Espinoza is out of sight, out of mind at the moment doesn't hurt, either.)

And that Espinoza might never make it to the majors should also factor heavily.

Any time you're talking about prospects, there's a certain degree of risk baked in - and when the prospect in question is a teenaged pitcher like Espinoza, that risk is even more significant. I don't think anyone has ever denied that. I just don't think that means you can't question whether we got enough for a prospect in a trade.

That said, my stance on this has always been that if Pomeranz pitches like a #1/2 for us, I have no complaints about the deal. A couple of months ago there seemed to be little chance of that, but what he's done recently has been incredibly encouraging...hope he keeps it up.

He seem to have a higher ceiling than Porcello right now. I think his cutter will get better. Just with his easy motion, his fastballs seem to explode without touching 96-97 mph. His problem is still his control.

Of course the next time he throws up another 4 inning, 5 run, 100 pitch gems we will all be all over his ass and lamenting the oncoming gloom.

We are Sox fans, after all.

If he pitches like a solid 4/5 over this year and next, we have no complaints if Espinoza doesn't make it to the bigs until 2021.

Not from me! I liked the deal and still do. I did have some questions about his intensity level a little while ago not so much any more.

To avoid beating a very dead horse, I'll just have to agree to disagree on this.

We will. I will trade a 17-18 kid for an established major league starting pitcher almost every time. It is just too long to wait and too much development that a teenager needs. Unless the guy is 6'5' throwing 100 mph, I will take the major leaguer. Espinoza doesn't have either of those attributes.
