The lineup tonight will have Beni on the bench and Young in the game. Perhaps a little time off will help him get his confidence back.

Good move by Farrell to give Beni the night off.

What might even be a better move is switching Benintendi and Pedy. I would bat Beni 2nd and Pedy 5th. The hitting clean up thing may be a head thing now with Beni.

Beni's bat all but disappeared in May. Farrell is still confident in him. It seems the league has adjusted its pitching approach to him so now he will need to make adjustments of his own. Good thing JBJ seems to be heating up. Let's hope Beni gets his bat back on track soon.

We just haven't had the club hitting well together. It has been and either/or thing. Beni and Hanley have both been missing of late. Travis has been hot and should be kept in the lineup, giving are colder hitters time to sit. Maybe sitting Hanley for a game or two to get his shoulder time to get better would help in the long run.

Travis is a very small sample size, but with too many othrt hitters struggling, one has to wonder if Benintendi might relinquish LF duties to him for a while.

I doubt it happens, but plenty of hitters better than Benintendi have been demoted early in their careers...

This is one of the more astounding threads-I'm guessing here--in talksox history.

I say that because it is now 82 pages long, the second longest on the front page of talksox forum, and it's about a rookie who looked promising last year and in April this year but is now struggling. At no time has looked as promising as the still young

Mookie Betts has become and who I will bet never had an 82 page thread about him. In fact at the same age, 22, Betts was already way better--his overall WAR in 2015 was 4.9--than Benintendi is today.

So the question has to be, why the fixation on Benintendi? He is small for a Sox left fielder. He is a decent but not great fielder with an average arm. He has good speed, but not the instincts of a JBJ or for that matter a Betts who started out as a secondbaseman. He is an OK baserunner.

He did make that great over the wall grab last year in Tampa. He does have a sweet swing, no question, but right now also an inconsistent one. And he has long hair and he's white.

Lol. Be careful with that one.

85 games played so far in the Majors, wow and we want to demote him. Tough crowd. Kid has been a good hitter everywhere, he'll figure it out. It's the Majors. Edited by OH FOY!

Well, if he wasn't built up as the next Yaz or Freddie Lynn people wouldn't be so disappointed.

Tough crowd indeed.

Perhaps it is time for Beni to get a hair cut.

I think he just needs to get some skull action.

I think the kid will eventually hit 280 or better this year and hit at least 15 HR. This slump won't last much longer.

I think Beni is going to be fine, but I think it might help to move him down in the line up for a while.

Maybe when Pedey comes back, we can drop him to 6 or 7.

I agree. He needs to have a change which could ossibly wake him up.

I agree. Take some of the pressure off until he breaks out of his slump.

FTR, as much as I'm usually against the sac bunt, I think it was a good call to have Beni sac bunt in last night's game. Maybe something as simple as successfully contributing to that run scored will give Beni the boost that he needs.

I wonder how long it's been since Beni has had a slump like this.

Maybe never?

He is probably pressing by now, because he has probably never been through a slump like this. If he doesn't break out of this slump soon, he will not have to worry about cutting his hair because it will start falling out.

He made a first attempt to breakout of the slump today and then some. He went 3 for 4 with 2 HRs and a single with a walk to boot, all off of 3 different pitchers, including a lefty. He scored 3 times, drove in 3 and stole a base. that waqs a great day and neither of his HR's were cheap.

In fact it was the killer B's today that did most of the damage. We did get hits from Moreland and I think Sandoval, but then Sandoval made a poor throw on a ball that cost us.

Great to come away from Baltimore with a split after going down on the first 2 of the series.

...and just like that, his OPS is up to a respectable .755!

Very nice game by Beni today. That has to feel good.

Hopefully, that gets him going again.

Freddie Lynnn had .967 OPS in 1975.

Don't get me going. (lol) - Freddie Lynn and Yaz still in a whole different category.

Beni is only at 350 career PAs. He's on pace for these numbers after 700 PAs:

.278 18 88

.348/435/.782

40 (2B+3B)

18 SB/ 2 CS

2.4 (projected) WAR on BR and fangraphs

He's no Fred Lynn, but he did come up a year earlier than Fred.
