Kelly (2-0 , 5.28 ERA) vs Sanchez (4-1 , 3.20 ERA)

Tough match-up tonight. This should be a really good series.

I hope Cy Kelly shows up.

IMO Sanchez is their best pitcher and Kelly have an awful track record against TOR. However Kelly looked like a Cy Young winner in his last start but his career in Red Sox uniform is full of hills and valleys. If Kelly keep us competitive until we face their BP which is mediocre at best, we could win this, otherwise the victory could be compromised.

Also, Kelly needs to stop walking people, mostly against this Canadian team, because his HR/FB% could destroy him early in the game. Regarding Sanchez his SO/BB against the Sox is awful, so we have to be patience at plate mostly because his OPS against the Sox is only 518.

Win.

Kelly needs to keep the ball in the ballpark. The Over/Under on Home runs by Kelly is 2. If he can keep it at 2 or under, we can compete, as long as they are not 3 run bombs (a Buchholz specialty).

Yup. Hs HR/FB% is 22% this year thus far. It is a small sample but his career is at 11%, so he needs to pitch in the corners and down in the zone. Not sure about his repertory but his fastballs shall be very selective and down in the zone. Baseballs love to fly in Toronto.

JA Happ and Marco Estrada have similar/better numbers and a longer track record. Sanchez has a penchant for wildness, which is never good against a buzzsaw like the Red Sox.

Keeping it down in the zone consistently almost guarantees an Encarnacion/Bautista bomb, who are low-ball murderers with their uppercut swings.

He needs t be on the corners and low in the zone. If he can do that, they might get him for a bomb or 2, but that is okay when you face Toronto. If he pitches up in the zone, the lesser hitters will be getting on in front of those big bombs.

I'd say against Toronto, it's more about changing speeds and not allowing extension. Bautista is an expert at pulling low-away fastballs into orbit.

You have to expect one or two of their big 4 hitters will take him deep. He will have to pitch off his fastball even if he can effectively mix in the off speed stuff. The key will keeping runners off the bases in front of the bombs.

Yeah he is still a kid but I love what I have seen in Sanchez thus far. I'd rather him than Happ anyday of the week. I like Estrada as well but still I'd rather Sanchez --today.

Aaron has a great run prevention numbers and all of them reflect his current ERA. Aaron has a great SO/9 and he doesn't walk too much. The problem with Aaron is his HR/FB%. If he improves this, He will have a great future in the majors, IMO

He will allow less homers as he becomes more adept at avoiding unfavorable counts. He has all of the tools to become an upper echelon pitcher.

As I said, he has to be very selective and down in the corners. On the other hand TOR is not 2015 TOR by any means. They are at 18th in wRC+... but still.

Bautista is serving his one game suspension tonight.... So who's the big winner? Looks like we are!

Opinions of Joe Kelly could really sway very far in either direction depending on his start. If he pitches well tonight coupled with his last start then it will be hard to ignore how he ended last season and not hope that he could emerge as solid starter in this rotation this year. However.....if he lays an egg then we better hope the offense doesn't take a day off.

On side note......is it sad that I'm semi disappointed that I have to hang out with friends tonight instead of staying home and watching baseball?

Kelly has much to prove yet, but if he can come clise to his last 8 2015 starts you'll hear no complaints from me.

I carry my baseball games with me on my phone. In comany, it's still ok to check highlights or even a few innings from time to time. The condensed games are a nice catch up if you must entertain.

I'm curious to see JBJ after his hit streak. I really wanted him to make it to atleast 30 (30 seems to be the cut off on the list). Does XB go further?

Between the two, I think XB actually is more likely to go further than 30. JBJ is killing it right now, but he can't sustain the amazing pace he's on forever. Eventually he'll "settle down". He'll still be above average, I believe, but I don't think he'll be hitting close to .500 for the rest of the season.

On the other hand, XB has a solid history of multiple-hit games. He may not have the same amount of power as JBJ is showing now, but I think he has the staying power for a hit streak even longer than JBJs.
