Brock is proving he is a bench player. We need a power bat there.

By going one for three?

Hanley seems to be enjoying it out there. Must sucked after he hurt his shoulder last April, he just look awful after it.

This bullpen needs Smith back, Farrell cannot keep going to the same guys all night. That was a solid start out of Price.

Hanley is my spirit animal.

I will keep saying this all season, I think.

Hanley is the man out there. I did not expect that he would make this kind of contribution defenselessly.

And he is not even warmed up with the bat.

If he keeps this up he is going to be a big f***ing hit in this town.

Is anyone going to make a GT?

My guess is that BP is expecting Station to do so.

OK, what am I missing with this post?

Panic move. Should've given Panda a shot.

Shaw being good and his playing being a panic move are not mutually exclusive.

Hanley Ramirez has been unbelievable at 1B. I expected him to be fine, but he's been almost gold glove level out there.

My favorite moment of the game was the DP in the 8th inning. Not just the great defensive play, but I love how Hanley was so pumped up about it. He seems to have truly found his home as a first basemen.

I sure wish we had those prospects back that we gave up for this Kimbrel guy! oh baby baby

Kimbrel being filthy and the FO overpaying for him are not mutually exclusive.

Except that it wasn't a panic move. They just chose to start the better player and bench the veteran.

It wasn't an overpay. They didn't give up one asset that they'll miss.

It's not a panic move if you literally don't have a choice. Panda was too out of shape to play the position both from a production and a health standpoint. Come join the rest of us in reality.

Bogey has no power!
When he gets one on the sweet spot that he can pull, he really puts a charge into it and hits it a long way. That has been evident since 2013. I am just surprised that it happens so infrequently.

Continuing to play Panda at the weight he reported at in Spring Training would have quickly been exposed as irrational, especially as he puts on weight during the season. It would have become quickly obvious that he cannot play up to major league standards. Benching Panda and the subsequent DL saved the Red Sox from the embarrassment that he surely would have brought upon himself and the team had he played.

MLB has a new stat cast which tracks how hard each batted ball is hit. Bogaerts doesn't hit the ball very hard. His 88MPH exit average (2015 resulted in just 7HR) was below the league.

In small sample this year it went up to 91MPH, which is what most 20HR+ sits at. Maybe his power will come in a bit. But his travel distant for batted ball is still only 192 ft vs the 213 league average. He's more of a guy who hits to RF.

Let's look at a real power hitter like Papi:

94MPH exit

280 ft (distant)

70 ft(height)

They could have gotten better value for those assets.

Don't get me wrong. I am thrilled that Kimbrel and Price are on the team. But that doesn't mean that we didn't overpay for them.

Statcast is a wonderful thing.

I don't doubt those statistics, but those are averages. What was the exit velocity on his Home Run yesterday? I would bet that it was much higher than 88 mph. I am just surprised that we don't see that more often from Bogaerts as he has shown the capability to supercharge a baseball.

You have no way of knowing that. It is just your opinion. And we had a very serious and immediate need at closer, and DD got us the best one in the game today. IMO not an overpay. You need to put these posts in the Dead Horse thread.
