Welcome back Christian Vazquez! Really pleased his recovery went so well, he is our Yadier Molina, IMO, at least defensively.

Let's go, Red Sox!

Can you say Panic! At the Disco?

All of these "aggressive" moves just may work out, but they all reek of "win now" mentality, with no real consideration for the long term implications.

That concerns me.

Kimmi, the main objective in the sport is winning. What reeks is losing.

They reek of "putting the best possible team forward". You keep talking about them having no real considerations for long term implications, and that is silly at best, pedantic at worst. Are you going to tell me you know better about the long-term outlook and health of this franchise than the FO? The worst thing that can happen to them is interest in the product growing stale, because then you screw with revenue projections, and as screwed as this team budget-wise (because of their own mistakes mind you), the worst thing they can do is putting a crappy team forward because they don't want to hurt people's feelings. You were dead wrong about giving Panda a chance, since he clearly can't physically handle the rigors of playing everyday, and Castillo needs to clear his head in a low-pressure environment. The Swihart demotion is justified because he clearly needs work defensively. There is sound logic to literally every move they have made except the ones (like signing Panda) you keep defending.

Let them put the best team forward. It's the best they can do for the long-term outlook of the franchise.

Also this may have been the plan with Vazquez all along, to install him as the #1 catcher as soon as all systems looked to be go with him.

... and the fact that his recovery dovetailed with an opportunity to save a year of service time on Swihart is probably more than a happy coincidence.

So, makes all of the sense in the world. The Panda move made sense, the Swihart move made sense, and Castillo still looks like a deer in headlights so demoting him to get regular playing makes sense. What exactly are you complaining about Kimmi?

Of course, but it is not a good idea to "win now at any cost". Sure, it's all good, until in 3 years or so it's really bad.

Obviously, it's too soon to know the long term effects. Hopefully, things will work out both short and long terms.

How could this be classified as "at any cost?" They haven't mortgaged the future. They didn't sign any albatross contracts this offseason.

it will not be as bad as the last 3 of 4 years when they had the patient approach.

The only contracts that are clogging this team moving forward is Panda and Porcello. Price is going to be fine IMO. Hanley is going to be fine IMO. Who else is clogging a spot IYO?

Depends on how much they win ... flags fly forever ... for most Red Sox fans, I think the pattern of the last three years is ideal. Win a title - who doesn't want that? And then two years of last place - which gives the fans a chance to complain, which ultimately it what they are better at.

Although I have been a fan for over 50 years, I guess I must be one of the unusual ones these days. I want them to compete every year. What Dombrowski has done so far is by no means a win at all costs philosophy. His moves have seemed logical, prudent and about time to many of us. Like I have said before, he doesn't look as good in his suit as Cherington did. Hope he isn't offended because at this point it surely looks like he knows more about the way the game is played.

If by "blather" you mean a brilliantly accurate commentary on the team and its fans.

It was a funny post but I don't really buy it. Everybody prefers a winning team. And most complaints about the past two seasons were justified.

The "sense of humor" lever in a700's head gets stuck sometimes.

It's a witty remark, not an expose on the failures of trickle-down economics. Lighten up, people.

If the team wins the WS this year, then the "win now" mentality is absolutely worth it. If they don't, then things remain to be seen.

Also, the "long-term" might be as soon as later this season. The moves of starting Shaw and Holt, and calling up Vazquez, look very good right now. A lot can happen between now and August.

Anyway, I'm very happy with the way this team is playing right now. That's the bottom line.

Blather, because I don't care about others opinions of fans -- unless it is about Yankee fans.

Maybe so, but it is like hearing a 40 year old joke. Remarks like Sk's are tired. And I will say it again, the opinions of fans about other fans bore me to tears. I barely read that garbage.

Sometimes I am grouchy. It happens, especially when I post so much and read everything that gets posted here. Sk is a good poster on the baseball stuff. The blather post was not his best stuff. Some people can do humor. Sk's strong suit is baseball and statistics. Comedy and satire are not his strong suit, IMO.

Even a win now at all costs mentality would probably not resut in 3 last place finishes down the road.

It's age. Don't try to pass it off as something else.
