Jays traded him and Travis D'Arnaud to Mets for R. A. F'ing Dickey. Disastrous.

Dickey was coming off a Cy-Young season though. His advanced age should have been reason for concern however.

Exactly, if he was a young Cy Young winner it'd be a different story.

I'm quite confused. What exactly do you mean here? Dickey actually won the NL Cy in 2012, right before the Jays traded for him.

I was agreeing with you that his age was the issue. He was 38.5 years old when he threw his first pitch for the Jays.

It was a great trade for us. We don't have to face Syndergaard hardly at all, and Dickey helped Steven Wright perfect his knuckler. :D

Cubs have a run differential of +79 (136-57) in 22 games.

It's amazing how well both Chicago teams have been playing.

I was hoping the White Sox would take care of the Os for us, but so far, no luck with that.

Lol. On a personal level I have admired Dickey. He has an interesting history, if not a UCL.

But you are correct, Mets got the better of the deal from what I see.

I like the way that Knucklers have a fraternity.

I still get a mild chubbie watching that Thor Kid Sindergard or whatever pitch.

Nasty, nasty, nasty.

Love to see him in a Sox uni.

One can dream.

What do people think about Logan Verrett on the Mets? Mets fans that I know like him a lot. I wonder what his price tag would be. He's 25 years old, so the Mets will not be looking for him to wait to step in as their top 4 leave for free agency in a couple of years.

Lester posted another solid start today. They just swept the Pirates in their home. Their rotation's numbers are ridiculous. Their offense is making a lot of runs. I have some questions at their BP but won't be a major problem, I guess.

I don't see a better team right now. Won't be surprised if they win 100+ games this season.

If the Cubs do win the World Series within the next few years it puts Epstein in a pretty special place in baseball history.

Theo was a great GM while he was in Boston. He fell victim to the same backstage politicking that drove Cherington out of town. Just admit he's way better than many of you gave him credit for and move on. He's one of the premier executives in the game, and was so during his tenure in Boston as well. How good would it be to have him as president of baseball ops right this instant.

LOL

You're funny...

R.A. Dickey has been the Jays most reliable starter over the last 3 years logging and average of almost 220 innings each year with a sub 4.00 ERA. That's not bad production. d'Arnaud is a terrible catcher who just can't stay healthy. And Noah was still 2 years away when he was traded. It looks bad going forward, and every team salivates over Thor, but they got what they expected from Dickey.

IMO, Epstein is already in a special place in baseball history, but yeah, leading the Cubs to a WS would put him over the top.

Poor Cubbies fans are already saying "dis is the year." How will the team manage to screw it up this year?

Of course there is the possibility that a fan may screw things up.

That team is so damn deep. Who has Soler and Baez in waiting should injury strike? I know Soler isn't killing the ball, but he is legit and should be alright by year's end. Theo built them into a juggernaut

We certainly know what that feels like.

You might Bell, but a lot of the news guys on this site might not. It was 12 years ago. Most people really start to follow baseball around the ages 8-10. So fans who are currently 20-22 have no idea.

The Cubs only have to play .500 ball the rest of the way out to finish with 90 wins.
And then the Mets will clean their clocks in the playoffs. Lol!

I was unaware until today that Youk is working for the Cubs as a scouting and player development consultant. That's cool.

It is cool. I like that Theo is loyal to "his guys".

Cubs are the league's best team right now - but we also know it's baseball - and being the best team is worth less in the postseason than it is in any other sport. It will be a fun ride.
