This team sucks so hard Jenna Jameson is calling it so she can get some tips to revive her porn career.

Are you looking in the mirror as you type?

People are entitled to say whatever they want about the team. I don't think this place should be an echo chamber where only one side of the argument is given. I don't understand the argument from the other side, but I am willing to listen and try to learn something about their viewpoint, even if I disagree.

Yup. While I disagree with those who think that this team still has chances, I respect them.

Who said they weren't?

The problem is the repeated douchbaggy posts directed at people who didn't agree with geniuses who happen to be thrilled that the

Sox suck.

I think UN is taking it especially hard because he bought the FO propaganda from day 1 and feels like a fool

I didn't "buy the propaganda". I hated the Sandoval signing, but legitimately liked most of the other moves. I was banging the Masterson drum waaaay before they signed him, and agreed with Spud's prediction of Cespedes-for-Porcello and said I would have liked it. I'm also a big fan of Miley from when he was in Arizona. That's not the real issue though, the real issue is the mediocre hitting the Red Sox have exhibited this season, which is something nobody can explain. So stop it with the chest banging, nostradouchebag.

I get your trolling here, but I've always been consistent in my idea that this isn't a whining outlet, and I've been here for almost six years, so you know this, and you know this well. Don't be an idiot.

So tempting. Set up like a softball on a tee without any fielders and a very short fence. This kills me, but for the sake of TalkSox I will pass.:):D;)

People are entitled to say whatever they want to say about the team. In fact, I welcome disagreements. I enjoy the debate. I just think it can and should be done in a respectful manner, without the mockery and condescension.

UN is the last person who should feel like a fool. He is one of the most rational and intelligent posters here.

I believed in this team since Day 1, and still believe that Ben had a sound philosophy in building this team. I don't feel even remotely like a fool. Call me or UN a fool if it makes you feel better about yourself, but at least we can back up our stances with sound and intelligent arguments.

Credibility nose dives. Just my opinion.

I am not consoled by any idea that Ben made the right moves to build a winning team when clearly whatever he decided to do has not worked.

Spending that kind of money and yielding a bunch of misfit pieces that loose so much is indefensible.

The Red Sox are the laughing stock of MLB. No way to sugar coat that.

It's time to stop drinking that kool aid.

The plan was death wrong since day 1... results have spoken, again.

I am not trying to console anyone with my defense of Ben's offseason strategy. I am not consoled by it either. It stinks that our team is playing so badly, to put it mildly. I also agree that they are the laughing stock of MLB. The strategy failed miserably. There is no sugar coating it.

However, where I think the logic of many fans misses is in thinking that because a plan failed, it must have been wrong. Or probably more on point, because one didn't like the plan or one disagreed with the plan, then it failed, it must be wrong. Neither of those things is true.

I didn't particularly care for the strategy myself. I would much rather have had strong pitching and mediocre hitting. I really wanted the FO to add another pitcher and I really thought they would. That still doesn't mean that the plan was wrong.

You know how the saying goes about the best laid plans.

One more thing. For all the talk about the signings of Hanley and Pablo being "splashy" signings or "shiny new toys", I think that, ironically, the reason why many people didn't like the way the rotation was constructed was because it didn't involove anyone "splashy".

We needed to upgrade our offense over last year as much as we needed to upgrade our pitching.

Kimmi, it's kind of frightening to think that this nightmarish season was the result of a good plan. I'd hate to see a bad one. :)

Take a look at this year's Yankees. A bad plan that is working out. ;)

Speaking for myself and not for others, I didn't like the way the pitching was constructed, because we didn't get anyone better than a #4 imo-- possibly Porcello could have been viewed as a #3. It had nothing to do with a lack of splashy moves. We didn't get anyone good. FTR I don't consider Sandoval a splashy acquisition. He is not a big star. He's a good hitter, not a great hitter and he is an average fielder at best. There is nothing splashy about him except for his paycheck.

you have been very funny in the midst of this misery. We need that to keep from crying. Keep it up.

One thing that doesn't get as much attention as the rotation choices is that nothing was done to strengthen the bullpen either.

Thanks...I seem to have a knack for gallows humor.

IMHO, the bullpen is in worse shape than the rotation with respect to now and in the future. For example, how much longer can Koji go? Can he and Tazawa last another year? I have my doubts.

The Red Sox always use a phrase... "We're looking for an ace, but at the right price". Shields for 70 million was the right price.

I am not looking to put words in your mouth, but I am going to restate what you have said to see if I am understanding you.

1. The plan has failed

2. If you had your druthers, you would have pursued a different strategy.

3. Just because the plan failed and you didn't like the strategy doesn't mean that it was a bad strategy.

Am I understanding you correctly?
