How can it be made better ( aside from pitching, that is ) now that the big money was burned on two guys that are not producing, an aging power hitter and overpaid, underdeveloped talent in at least one other position?

If all of those guys can not find a way to up their games this year will be very ugly.

What a shame.

I think the season can be salvaged if one of the Pawtucket kids can stay in the rotation and pitch well. Maybe it will be Rodriguez, maybe Johnson. I don't think we can expect 2 of the kids to make the leap and be productive this year. When has that ever happened? If one of the kids helps out and holds down one spot and we make a trade soon for a real top of the rotation guy, I think we can compete. I think the bats will heat up enough to score enough runs. Hanley in LF will continue to frustrate. He is worse than Youk when he played out there briefly one season. Cripes, AGon was better in the OF.

I come up with a new excuse why we can't hit a pitcher before the games.....and I now think we will lose a game more than we will win.

This pitcher is lefty, oh this pitcher is doing well, this pitcher is new, this guys bad and we only beat good pitchers.....sometimes...... are just some of the excuses......

Where's the Funk??

Just noticed that we lost 8-0. What happened with Miley? Wonder if it's time to push the panic button or probably it's already late.

The talk of Rusney as some sort of superstar (a la Puig and Abreu) by the Boston media last year was laughable. I'd be satisfied with a .700 OPS and just mediocre defense over the course of his contract. His plate discipline is bottom of the barrel, and he really lacks fundamental baseball instincts in the field. Good thing we weren't willing to go 6 years, $68 million for Abreu!

In a typical season, you guys would already be buried. But in the disastrous suck of the AL East, you're a mere 4 games out.
It's a mirage that we are still competitive. There are too many clubs to jump over. Not only do we have to get hot, but we have to hope that no one in front of us gets hot. We can turn this around by retooling the starting rotation from the minors and by trade. Both need to be done. We can't rebuild the staff sufficiently in 2015 without going the trade route.

He's played a handful of games. Your conclusions about Castillo are about twice as laughable about the superstar talk.

I don't remember anyone saying Castillo was a superstar. He is a decent risk because all it cost was money. He's better than Vic/Nava/Craig right this second though.

Finally got a hit. In the 6th.

The futility of our offense is mind boggling. There have been far too many games in which it took them until the 5th inning or later to get their first hit.

I can't wait for you to meet Kimmi!:D

LOL

What can I say that I haven't already said 100 times? I am teetering into Fred territory. LOL

That said, I stand behind my defense of the construction of this roster.

This in not Ben's fault. This is on the players and the coaches.

:( so sad - not even summer yet.

That's the reason to be hopeful CP.

There are over 100 games left to be played.

6 games under .500, yet just 4 games out the division. Offense can change that fortune around by f***ing hitting.

As bad as we've looked, things are never as bad as they seem when you're losing. Two good weeks of baseball and this team can be in first place.

The real problem was letting Porcello sign Panda AND Hanley. Why sign two 3b???

He also signed Chili Davis and traded Lackey for Kelly and Craig. f*** that guy.

BTW, you guys are still really depressing.

Could be worse, Kimmi. On BDC Pumpsie just started a thread called 'Time to clean house'.

This is true, but even if we are better than a last place team, we are probably only a third place team with little hope of competing for the post season unless changes are made. They could turn things around. I am hoping that they do, but i can only see it happening if we get 2 new effective starters. Rodriguez or Johnson hopefully will settle into one of the spots and we need to get a pitcher via a trade. That is what I think it will take. You can rail about the offense, but our starters have the worst ERA in all of baseball two months into the season. That isn't going to cut it even if our lineup turns into murderers row.

I'm surprised he waited this long.

If our hitters were hitting like murderer's row, we would be in first place.

We just needed our staff to keep us in the hunt until some of the youngsters could be called up or we could acquire a pitcher by trade. The starters have done that.

Last place in ERA is not enough to sustain a team over the course of a season in a post steroid age. It doesn't matter what your offense does. The key is the last part of your post. We need a couple of new starters. That is all we need. Our hitting will do enough over the course of the season.

You know Pumpsie.

He didn't want to look silly. ;)

This is actually a good thing.

Every time he predicts doom for the Sox, they go on a tear.

He's the only guy I know that's wrong more often than Fred.
