OK, well I guess this is the same as the debate about whether a pitcher should win the regular season MVP. You get into the apples-and-oranges thing.

I don't accept the blowout argument though. A lot of Ortiz's hits were either in the Game 1 blowout or in games we lost. That shouldn't diminish his contributions.

I agree to a point - frankly splitting hairs at this point. Lester has been terrific - although his line score was not all his doing, and that also figures into things.

You know, there's the possibility that they just share the WS MVP award, and it would be warranted.

I was just thinking that this is one time when it would be warranted. Lester has been the most dominant pitcher in a series dominated by pitching and defense. Ortiz is doing things that are unheard of from an offensive perspective.

Just saw some of those Ortiz AB's replayed again. I still don't know what the hell Wainwright is thinking but he was not only pitching to Ortiz but leaving pitches in laughably bad locations to a guy that is a monster at the plate. Ortiz is likely at the height of his hitting powers from the perspective of his experience and how he uses it at the plate. I would prefer to be one of the two best guess hitters on the planet than have the reflexes of a younger man any day. It is probably one of the key reasons why Ortiz does not appear to have aged at the plate but has in fact gotten better if anything.....that and still being slimmer than he was at his worst. Ortiz looked like he had gained a bit of the weight back at the start of the year. I think he lost that again over the coarse of the season and is probably still about a half-elephant down from his heaviest.

But how can you compare a pitcher's performance with a hitter's, especially in a postseason series? Lester has done everything a pitcher can do for his team, Ortiz has done everything a hitter can do. That's why I think co-MVP's would be a logical choice.

Ortiz is hitting over .700. That's the equivalent of Leater throwing 2 CG shutouts. The only way Lester can split the award is if he somehow wins game 7

Not to be a party pooper, but it's still entirely possible that the WS MVP is Wacha, Holliday, or Beltran.

Not within the context of the OP and his thread starter.

You should get the DVD Box set. Completely worth it and awesome!

Indeed. Most Yankee fans I know will admit that it was one of the most captivating and dynamic sporting events in American history.

I still watch parts of that sometime. Especially the 9th inning of ALCS Game 4. That never gets old.

I believe I have the Chinese import version because mine is terrible.

Just tell him to get rid of the first three games as I did. I gave the away to some Yankee fan I ran into in our local mall. Who wants to watch those first three games anyway?

Let's forget about the Series MVP, ok? We have much bigger fish to fry----like tonight's game. Then if all goes well we can argue to our heart's content about who is or who should or should have gotten the MVP award. Pedal to the metal and eye on the prize.

I have the DVD of ESPN's 30 for 30: Four Days in October, which chronicled the comeback.

Box set is better. And I would not even throw out Game 3. Don't watch it for too long, but it helps to see just how ... dead ... we were.

I remember Game 4, just hoping "let's get on the board here - I don't want a sweep"

I remember Game 5, "I don't want to lose it in Boston"

By Game 6, suddenly you were thinking "jeez, we steal one more, and ya never know"

And then in Game 7, when Johnny Damon (who hadn't hit AT ALL all series) had his "Victorino slam" moment ... that was a particular fond memory for me because of 2003. In 2003 we also chased the starter early - but missed an enormous chance to blow open the game, partially leading to the Grady-driven meltdown ... would the Yankees dodge a bullet that size again? And then - it was suddenly 6-0 and the rout was on

I just borrowed that set from a friend. I was looking at those three discs wondering when I would ever want to watch them. Still drawing a blank on that question.

Well, watching some of those first 3 games will remind you how s*****, angry, frustrated and depressed you were before the miracle unfolded. It's a reminder of what we overcame and how far we've come since that Game 3 debacle.

Just my opinion Beaneater----kiss those first three games off. They are not worth the bother. Oh sure, you anticipate what's coming when you get to game four but why put yourself through such an ordeal. Give those three games to some Yankee fan with time on his hands. You won't be sorry.
