Amazing that people feel the need to deep throat former Sox FO guys. Who cares about them one way or another?

They were a huge part in earning championships. That's like saying "Amazing that people still like that Pedro guy. Who cares one way or another now that he is retired ?"

Specially someone who deep throats Papelbon, who's a shadow of his former self, so hard.

Papelbon played too and helped to win WS. Not to mention that he is the best closer ever in this team.

The Cubs are a bit like the Yankees with Tanaka--the only way they can improve their pitching is to sign him. Both teams need a major starter.

The Yankees will have a tough time making the playoffs in the East with their current pitching. They will need a Sabathia of several years ago plus a strong return of Pineda. Plus a good closer. Plus a lot of Geritol. Remember that stuff?

Considering what he will cost, Tanaka is a huge gamble for any team. Nobody really knows how he will fare in MLB; and in Yankee stadium against left handed hitters.

I wonder which memorabilia sells better: Papelbon or Epstein? LOL! People don't give a s*** about FO personnel.

They care plenty about their performance.

Obviously. As i stated a couple posts ago, common sense is not the strong point of some here. Besides, i'm sure Ben's "Bodacious" T-shirts sell plenty well.

Koji is the best closer this team ever had for the span of season.

I see iortiz is pretty strong with the Papelbon deepthroating as well, despite the Rivera Highway Rider's recent suckage. :P

LOL! he had a very good year in Philly, and another not that good but still posted a under 3 ERA. He is going bounce back and will post his usual numbers and will be on track in Mo's highway.

The Red Sox "do not appear to be among the finalists" in the Tanaka sweepstakes, tweets Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe.

Good.

And:

Teams bidding on Tanaka are "in for at least 6 or 7 years," reports Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com (on Twitter). The average annual value will be "at or above" $20MM, Levine adds. Put those numbers together, of course, and Levine's report suggests that Tanaka will command at least $120MM (in addition, presumably, to the $20MM posting fee).

He had one of the best seasons of any closer in history.

Hopefully he can stay durable and consistent as Papelbon was. Would be awesome.

One was a huge part in a championship. Another was a huge part in two championships. What's the difference?

If baseball was a game of chess, would you be more impressed by the queen, or the player moving the queen around?

I think nobody is taking out his credit (whatever it is) or wishing him bad.

Haha, he's got pitch to he's 43, and for the next nine seasons he can only have one season with an ERA over 3.00. He also has to throw in seven seasons of sub 2.00 ERA. With his fastball declining, he probably won't even be a closer in four years.

I think I remember that whole Papelbon argument. He's good, but he's overpaid. He'd be my fourth option to close for the Red Sox in 2014.

I'd stand in line to get Pedro's autograph, but not for Theo's. That's just me. I root for and admire the players who IMO have super-human skills just to get to that level. Pedro is a whole different level of other-worldliness. FO guys are just pencil pushers and hot air. In my world, they are a dime a dozen. But hey, if you want to hang a poster of Theo in your office, go for it. The trainers help the players a lot too, but I couldn't even bother to know their names.

How DARE you! Papelbon is CLEARLY the re-incarnation or MARIANO RIVERA, but in a douchey blowhard instead of a quiet badass mold.

And why would you use stats and common sense when Papelbon's awesomeness speaks for itself?

if he posts his avg numbers the rest of his contract with philly, I will call it deal. He'll be ok IMO.

Nobody is going to post what Mo's done. That is not what is behind of the Mo's highway concept, which I patented and some are misunderstanding LOL!

Anyway, he is gone and some are still obsessed with him. U? is one of them.

Papelbon is getting paid $12.5 million as a reliever. He has to be a lot more than average to justify that salary. I think he has to pitch at his 2006-2008 level to be worth it. That won't happen with his fastball in decline, and no dominant secondary pitch. I wouldn't be surprised if he's just an above-average closer in 2014. Looking back at when the deal was signed, he was coming off a fantastic year, but he was going into his age 31 season. Giving an aging reliever with one pitch four years is a bad signing, and bad might be a nice way of putting it. Mariano Rivera is the only reliever in the history of the game that would be an exception to that rule, and 4/50 could arguably be an overpay for him as well.

Haha, OK. I wasn't completely sure behind the context of the "Mo Highway.

If he posts SV% around 90%, call it deal. We'll see how this ends up.

I'm not obsessed with Papelbon. I am obsessed with the closer who had what may be considered the best individual season by a relief pitcher in MLB history: Koji Uehara.

The only reason i keep bringing up Papelbon is because iortiz and a700 won't keep hanging from his nuts. /clarification.

I don't mean to beat this to death, but I have to respond to this. A SV% of exactly 90% would be 13th in MLB in 2013. Would you pay all of those relievers Papelbon money?

Hanging from his nuts? LOL! What in the hell are you talking about? You are the only one who whines about Pap every single time in every thread; like today, you brought this up (as always); a thread that is not about him. Typical you, starting shitstorms from nowhere. It's sick.
