Sox are 66 and 44 and in 1st place. Interestingly, in 2011 today, the sox were 66 and 41

Totally different teams. 2011 Sox won early with talent and lost late because of heart (or lack thereof). This team has talent AND heart. They go all out on every play and work their ass off to grind out wins. That 2011 team played well but never seemed to have that spark when they needed it. They had a couple grinders in Papi and Pedey, but they also had guys like AGon that seemed indifferent. No one on this team is indifferent... they go hard all the f***ing time.

I really think the Gomes signing was the single greatest addition this team could have made all off-season. He is the ultimate team first guy and it's rubbed off on everyone.

Somebody posted that the Rays boards were kinda' quite tonight. Maybe a bunch of them went off to their sea floor beds for the night confident that the Sox had surely lost. They will have to wake up to find that the Sox came back to win it.

Umm... pretty sure the Rays boards were kinda quiet because they don't have real fans.

Holy s***, I can't believe they came back and won. I was at work and couldn't really follow game and I remember seeing Sox down 7-1 in 8th. What an insane win!

So great to watch that game. I started freaking out and was given a stern look by the lady of the house as the baby was just falling asleep. Luckily the redsox won and my baby didn't wake up.

Would anyone like to know what my reaction was when I woke up after going to bed with it 3-1 to see that we had come back from 6 runs down vs Seattle and won it by putting up a 5 spot in the ninth?

If you were so awesome, you wouldn't have gone to bed, young pup.

I had little interest in glueing my eyes to the Gameday pitch by pitch for several hours.

Just a question on that last play, but it comes up occasionally. Note that the runner on second never bothers to go to third. In this case, with 1 out, it doesn't matter. But that's a potential force-out, and with two outs, say, a force out anywhere would cancel the run, no matter how far the ball is hit. Anyone know if there's some rule on walk-offs about fielder's indifference (as here, where the CF essentially conceded the run).

A minor league game was just lost by this same rule. 2 outs, bases loaded (I believe, at least 1st and 3rd). Guy hits a single up the middle. Man on 1B just turns to celebrate the win. Other team touches 2nd base, game over.

Reminds me of the great Sox rally game in Fever Pitch that Fallon's character missed. I'm sure a lot of Sox fans turned in when the Sox went down 7-1 and King Felix still in the game. I for one was shocked this morning when I saw the score. There is something special about this team.

You are a disgrace to your own mojo falling asleep on your own gamethread. Keep up the good work.

I don't see any parallels between 2011 and this season. In 2011 after injury and under performance hit the rotation, we essentially had 3 blackholes in the rotation with Buch down and Lackey and Wake being punching bags. Yes, Buch is down again, and arguably Dempster is becoming a blackhole, but we have found some good stop gap starts from Workman, and unlike 2011 when Theo thought we had enough to get to the post season and essentially did nothing to get reinforcements, Cherries got a legit starter in Peavy to plug into the rotation. Until Buch gets back our only weak spot in the rotation is Dempster. The rest are doing their job and keeping us in games. The starting pitching is much stronger and healthier, so I would not expect things to unravel like 2011. Cherries did what was needed to prevent a spiral. Theo did not and it was a fatal mistake.

You actually sit down through that s***? I love the Red Sox, but I rather not even keep up with the game using gameday, props. I have MLB.TV and you're welcome to use it whenever you want. If you're interested, PM me and I'll give you the info. I don't think 2 people logging in is a problem because my friend uses my account at the same time. Plus I'll be working 2-12 tonight so I have no use for it tonight.
