Talk about a turnaround. Grant it the division sucks, but the Dodgers are within striking distance of first place. This wasn't what this thread was talking about when it was created.

This shouldn't last. The Dodgers have a 101 wRC+, which basically means their offense is league average. They're 7th in the NL in xFIP and 10th in pitcher WAR. And they have a -13.8 UZR to boot. If the Dodgers are competitive, it will be because that division is terrible.

starts with carl the craw.. remember him? fuly healthy again and has been his usual spark plug irritant self as a first-rate leadoff man. of course there's the most dangerous rook in years in one puig at second. talkin .600 slugging and well over 1.000 OPS. gonzo (remember him?) has become his old padre clutch self and a solid rock as the prototypical #3 hitter. nothin against pedy but a-gon is who u want in that position. the real though, the guy who makes this entire lineup truly elite and sangerous come playoff time is one HANLEY RAMIREZ... (y cant we get playas like that?).. perfect blend of left-right balance and skillset diversity. when u have Ethier batting 5th you have a powerful lineup. his bat is in resurgence (4 big hits yesterday).

all this without their top 3 OF'rs all playin together at the same time. kemp was on fire before his latest ankle issue. no way u sit puig. i can see kemp in left going forward and hitting SIXTH. think about that, the rightful MVP of just 2 years ago batting sixth. would hate to b a pitcher facing those guys. not one jabro in the bunch, each can go deeeep on any pitch. talk about a perfect win-win trade. dodgers wouldnt take it back and nor would we.

red sox west is kicking the angels all over their bloated grill on and off the field. these guys have won like 25 of 28 games and are poised to win their DIVISION! plus look at that pitching staff led by kuroda. built to make loud noise in the playoffs as well!

worst trade than da Babe

Standing Room, why are you copying stuff from the Boston Globe forum here?

I just went over there out of curiousity. There is another VA Sox Fan. Weird. to see.

Didn't see SR's stuff.

The Dodgers have taken a lot of hits in this thread, but right now they look unstoppable. Also, the guys that we dumped on them (AGon, Punto, Crawford) have a higher WAR than our replacements at those positions.

Disappointing.

What the Dodgers are doing right now...AMAZING! They got healthy and then Beckett got hurt, a good thing for them. Red Sox still did the right thing by getting rid of all that money. They wouldn't have performed well with Boston. Especially Gonzo and Crawford. Punto was fine.

Maybe the problem was the players, but a manager that they despised.

That's true too. Larry L. f'd up there, big time!

Gonzo might have been ok. I'm not sure about Crawford.

I've never seen a team rolling like this except for the '06 Twins after they brought Liriano up.

Ofc, Liriano got hurt and the Twins ended up getting swept in the first round of the playoffs in typical Minnesota fashion, but LA is cruising like that.

Saw this today:

"Nick Punto has actually been the 2nd-most-valuable player from the trade for the Dodgers this year. WARs: Gonzalez 3.6, Punto 2.3, Crawford 1.1, Beckett -0.8."

Ha! Crawford, you suck!

Remember Verlanders 7-year 180M deal? Well now Clayton Kershaw has a 7-year 215M deal with the dodgers... Highest payed pitcher in baseball history or something.

We may now have to pay Jon Lester more than we thought it would take to resign him. As long as the turnstiles keep spinning and those TV contracts keep springing up there will be oodles of money available to those teams willing to spend. Just as long as we spend wisely I'm all for the Red Sox doing what they can to keep up as best they can, but contracts like Crawford's seven year $142 million are out.

I don't think it's a bad contract. Baseball is overflowing with money, and Kershaw is a 6 WAR pitcher. He's also only 25, so they aren't paying for any decline years. He would have commanded this much in free agency. Personally, I think opts out in five, and lands another huge deal.

Completely agree. He's young, dominant and healthy. Seems worth it to me.
