I'm sure that number would be better if not for the two outlier starts against Detroit and Cleveland.

They all count. He is a mediocre SP on a mediocre team with terrible pitching.

Thats not saying much. He ranks 26th of 58 among AL pitcher with at least 60 IP. Thats middle of the pack...for our supposed ace. He is part of the problem. If he were our #3 SP he would be fine.

He's pitched better than that ERA. He's got a 1.15 WHIP. Where does that rank?

Fail.

EDIT:

Wow. My stream is a bit behind.

Way to go Salty

(still haven't seen the HR on MLB.tv premium stream via my Xbox)

1-0 pitch coming... now...

Well I love to say everything is all roses and lollipops but we don't have anybody else. He's better than what we have.

All things considered, 3 games over is a solid achievement for a team with injuries to the rotation, the MVP runner up missing 3 months along with the 20 million dollar left fielder, and our closer being out til after the break.

I'm not saying we are going to storm to the top of the east with the way we are right now. That's not gonna happen. But once healthy, this team looks a lot like, maybe better than, the team that dominated the AL for most of the season last year. If we can hang around until we get healthy, the second half is where we make our run.

Plus, we have some resources to go shopping at the deadline and there's a couple of nice options available to us.

Ninth. Same denominator.

I think his ERA takes precidence.

And Salty ties the game...FINALLY A RUN!

Sorry we only look at statistics that help us support our skewed argument.

I spent 3 minutes typing and I check the Gameday to see:

Jarrod saltalamacchia homers on a fly ball to left field.

Season is not nearly over (and this isn't a kneejerk reaction, I've been saying this). Only 2 GB of a playoff spot in June. Plenty of ball left, boys.

ERA is overrated pumps and Josh's is weighted by 2 bad outings.

The injury excuse is nonsense. All teams have injuries. It is what it is. We are as good as our record says we are. Period.

Whew~

Sad to see WMB 0-3/

Joe Castiglione was saying that when WMB messes up people are chanting YOUK at Fenway. WERID! We all wanted him gone and now...

Fair enough. You are entitled to hold that opinion. I don't share it. I think they all count, for all pitchers. Its also a reasonable arguement to argue that his WHIP or ERA+ has value too. I do not think he is an ace at all...more like a #2-3 SP.

Though the Red Sox have had the most DL days of anyone in baseball, and it's been some big players too. It's not the only reason for their struggles, but look at the outfield before Nava broke out. It was terrible. It's made a difference.

The good WHIP, plus the 2 really bad starts, indicates he's pitched better than the ERA. But he's been on the shelf twice already, that ain't good. Our rotation is not in great shape, that's for sure.

At least half the Sox fans that fill those Fenway seats have no f***in' idea what they are lookin' at. Just not that kind of crowd anymore...but hey they have the sell out record!

So, it doesn't matter at all that such a huge part of our team is out is what you're saying? We wouldn't be one game better with ells, CC, and Bailey playing?

That's ridiculous.
