Gentlemen, Laffey has his stuff tonight and as they say, "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then." Give the guy some credit. He's pitching to contact and has pinpoint control over two pitches. The good news is that DiceK's stuff is equally effective tonight. I'm actually enjoying a well-pitched game on both sides for a change.

Laffey has not gone the Jurjjens route and is instead sticking with the same approach second time through the order....still painting the corners with that junk....getting two strikes and forcing the Sox to protect. Now has gone 4 innings on something like 45 pitches....

With all those pitchers being crappy a 6 man rotation would be a horrible idea. And there is an off day before the vile Yanks.

Where the Sox really seem to fail against this kind of pitcher is that while they will for the most part swing to protect the plate with two strikes, they tend not to give in and shorten their strokes and go with the pitch. If they want to pull they will often still try to pull even with two strikes....they do not shorten up on the bat in an effort to achieve greater bat control.

I am fine with Salty still swingin' for the fences even with two strikes but everybody else should be shortening up against a guy like this and protecting in the traditional sense instead of just swinging.

The Sox regularly refuse to do that and as a result guys like this keep them dancing at the end of their strings for whole games.

s***** at bat from WMB. In a one run game after a leadoff double you gotta move Agon to third. Wasted at bat.

WMB is an RBI guy. With the runner on second already and less than two strikes I am OK with him trying to pull which is what WMB was trying to do there. However if he took that same cut with two strikes I would have been much less kind.

With a strikeout already under his belt, obviously he's not see Laffey well. The best swing of the at bat was the foul he hit up the right field line-- at least he had the right idea. Agree to disagree on this one.

Well now we are looking at the real problem with this batting order against a guy like Laffey who is pitching tonight about as well as he can pitch. WMB goes down granted without advancing the runner.

However Salty does not have good bat control and is either going to hit you a HR or be an out. If Agons were on third he would not have scored on that dribbler from Salty. Then who comes up...Mr Excitement himself dmac. Lucky to have drawn a walk there and then we get the pop up for the final out of the inning.

The point is that run would not have gotten home from third either. WMB was the last good shot we had at plating that run.

McDonald, Byrd, Punto, Lillibridge...in the history of the franchise, have they ever had more offensive stiffs on the roster than this year?

Salty's at bat looks very different with the runner on third, don't kid yourself.

Frankly I do not think this was the order V should have put out there tonight.

McDonald should NEVER play; we need Nava out there. Lillibridge should not be playing either.

Finally, something I agree with.
